Do you need a hook-up or are you looking to dry camp ?

How many days do you have from the time you cross the border to the time you need to be back?

Where exactly do you want to go. "nice beach between san felepe and mulege " (sic) Thats a lot of territory and depending on what your thoughts are not a good road for RV's.

Gulf side or Pacific side? Camp or RV park.. more info needed and there will be more than enough opinions.

I will have about 3-4 days after x-ing border, i would like hook ups but OK dry or if can drive to dump and fill water - I got kids ;)

I would like to go to the Gulf side . I don't mind driving 500 miles or so..

The roads, I have a 35 RV so the roads should be reasonably good.

With kids, we love Playa El Requeson because the water is shallow and protected on both sides.
Playa Naranja is also nice and has showers and enclosed palapas.
On the way down, I wouldn't look for hoop-ups. Depending on how fast you want to make the trip you coould stay at El Pabellon in San Quinton, Rancho St Inez in Catavinia, Lakeside or El Padrito in San Ignacio. You can hook-up at Rice and Beans in San Ignacio if you like but it lacks any ambiance.

Stop in Mulege to shop and fill your water tank at the edge of town then stop at Serinidad to dump on the way to your beach location. With two kids we are good for a week with sewer and a few 5 gallon jugs makes us good for a week of water.

3-4 days? I would select Daggett's at Bay of LA

If you can stretch it to 5-6 days I would push to Bay of Conception.

alan's right...3-4 days is not long enough for mulege...

it WILL take you 2 long days down and a looong day to return...

that's three of your four...

if you leave early early...you will make the bay of LA in one no sweat....

then one back...

2 days on the beach

Mulege area is out of the question. You will spend the bulk of your time inside your rig getting there and back. You might as well spend it in front of your house and save the fuel costs.

I think I'd opt for a camping area south of San Felipe. Water should be nice. Probably save about 4-5 hours driving each way over BOLA where the water COULD still be too cold for comfort.

Samsam,

The suggestion for BOLA is a great one. However, with only 3-4 days, first time driving south, and driving a motorhome, I'm going to suggest something different. If you had a few more days I think it would make sense.

I would test the waters by driving no further than San Quentin. Several RV parks there are close to the ocean. Driving time is an easy 6 hours, rather than 10 to 11 hrs.

Just my 2 cents. A trip to BOLA with 4 days to spend driving an RV with kids may turn into a marathon rather than an enjoyable time. After this first trip you will feel more comfortable driving and the family will know what to expect.

Whatever you choose take you time and have fun knowing that it's the first of many trips.

Ken

I would just go to one of the campos south of San Felipe such as Punta Estrella to make the best of such a short visit.

Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial start of summer. Time to embrace the warm weather and cast off the blustery conditions of winter and spring.

Why anyone might want to spend it in the fogbank that is San Quintin weather is a mystery to me, too.

Give me warmth any day. You wont find it in SQ in May.

Requeson Leave the border very early in the morning, with everything you need for 4 days, have breakfast lunch dinner on the road that evening in Paradise, you can do this with a 35ft RV easy. And bring swim suits, and wading shoes.

I can second the recommendation for Daggett's in BoLA. Beautiful bay, friendly people. We loved it there. And you can hire Ruben to take you out to the islands in his boat. He is an excellent naturalist.

You would be spending a lot of time on the road for a four-day trip, though. San Felipe would be closer.

Personally I think Mulege is too far for four days though the beaches south of there are gorgeous.
