Wednesday 25 April - Update on the Baja 250 race situation. Victor Rodriguez Silva, President of the Tourism and Conventions Office in Mexicali (COTUCO) has informed us that they are requesting a meeting with Sal Fish, CEO of SCORE International which runs the Baja races. It is hoped that Sal Fish will be able to meet with COTUCO and the representatives of the Ejido in May to discuss bringing the Baja 250 race back to San Felipe in 2008. This event is a major tourist event for San Felipe and it has a very large financial impact on our region. We fully support the efforts that are being made and wish the negotiators every success. A faximile of the letter to Sal Fish is shown below. "

It has been previously reported the SCORE signed a multi-year contract with Ensenada to have the Baja 250 start/finish in Ens. And would seem highly unlikely that they would race the B1K through SF at the end of the year.

You think they would have thought about the long term ramifications back then...:o

Exactly -- there are lots of folks that are talking about the 1000 in relation to San Felipe. From SCORE's perspective, they have shot themselves in the foot. If you are trying to organize an event of this size (in MEXICO, no less), how many additional unknowns and hassles do you need?:lol:

Add to that the fact that one of the goals of the '07 1000 is to come close to the earlier courses, and San Felipe starts to fade from the horizon.

Personally, I think that unless something significant happens, it will be a while before San Felipe sees another SCORE race.

I agree with Roberto and Desert Bull...

San Felipe blew it big time... Yes, I know it was a couple of big wigs in area ejidos that ruined it... But, they ruined it for San Felipe, so San Felipe's city officials should have solved the issue BEFORE Sal had to become the miracle worker and get to the mayor of Ensenada (who was in Mexico City at the time) to work something out.

I recommend interested people get the newest edition of DIRT SPORTS Magazine (May 2007) for the Baja 250 story.
