a friend of mine who ownes a shop down there has allways told me that most of the bigger bombs are actually made with the same cracker as the smaller bombs have. that is how they make more money on you. the best ones i have ever found were indead panamanian seal bombs that the tuna fisherman trade with the lacal merchants for money. i once gave one to a kid at allisitos and he ended up blowng the toilet up in the local bathroom,(never again) he did pay for that one. allso the red bombs that are very light are pretty dam good and cheep.

Yes, please no more. I've had enough of those damn things for the past 20 years. Dogs don't like it either.

Fireworks

Debated on posting this, but what the heck, we are all adults......right????

many years ago when I was working the road, got a call of an explosion IN a phone booth....well, arrived at the scene, but no phone booth...just wires dangling from the pole.....and small pieces of a black plastic trash bag........

later found out that some kids had filled a large trash bag with acetylene welding gas, put it inside of the phone booth at the top......placed a small lit candle on the shelf of the phone booth.....and ran........

result.....loud explosion, no phone booth!!!

NOT a recommended Baja activity.....we, several responsible sober adults (at the agency) tried it.....sounded like a 155mm artillery round going off!!!!!!!!!!

Just Remember

Please fire them off away from camp and homes AND remember to toss them rather than holding them after they are activated...............A kid in camp forgot this and had to learn how to grasp things with only a thumb (lucky) and a little pinky...........the other three stumps bled rather profusely before we could find the medical supplies.

Not finding fault because I had several home made launchers in my days of noise and fun.:bounce::bounce::bounce:

Where's Bajabus? He's the afficianado of things that go bang around here. For my part, I've had good luck with a thing that looks like a full stick of dynamite, with the fuse in the middle. Don't know what it's called, but it makes your ears ring.

Oh, and by the way, we may all be adults as far as chronological age goes, but to paraphrase Kurt Vonnegut, don't fool yourself -- we're just here to fart around.

and after you toss them and they go bang, please dispose of your trash properly instead of leaving it on the beach as so many (in fact ALL so far) do.

Call me an ol' fart if you want but fireworks in Baja when i'm trying to chill is freekin' annoying to me. Although I can't blame the mocosos for doing those things I guess...I was once somewhat of a pyro in my days.

Just for the sake of the original thread, heres my two cents. The M1000 and-what- nots with the chalky ends and home made look...beware of those. Alot of those are duds or can also be quite dangerous with a quick fuse. Your best bet is to look for the little guys that are water tight with wax and look machine made. Alot like the chinese made variety. They're smaller but pack a mean wallop. They're around , you just have to look a little harder.

I like skyrockets. Where can I get some decent ones in Ensenada? (or anywhere off Mex 1) The last ones I got on the main drag were total duds. I think those are the chinese made gringo rip-off variety

I HATE fireworks. Get peeed off every time I hear one!! Think "What an idio that person is".
Then in a moment of weakness I light one!! And it`s instant Mr Hyde!!!!
J Thaddeus Toad I become with a new mania!!!
I don`t quit until all are fired and I fall exhausted into a chair!!
Then the next day, I hate them again!!
BTW my favorite ones are the rockets with the loudest explosions!!

Kids in Todos Santos love fireworks for different holidays. Last Easter was fun: started early, went late. Really, it just sounds like gunfire. You get use to it.

Growing up, I would open and empty 2-3 M3s onto a sheet of newspaper, insert the same fuse, fold into a tight package and tape, and blow it up. Think of a cherry bomb x 3 noise factor. Very dangerous but really fun if you like that sort of thing.

I don't like fireworks. A friend of mine in highschool had one go off too quickly and took off both his thumbs and blinded him. His big toes were used to replace his thumbs, but nothing could replace his eyesight.

Those seal bombs/fireworks can get you into a lot of trouble. We once knew a guy who's nose was pretty wet one night at San Miguel, and accidently tossed one next to some poor strangers tent in the middle of the night. It just so happened to land right beside his head. The bomber almost got his throat ripped out by the then wide awake camper. He's lucky that his wet nose didn't get broken. The lamest part of the situation was the poor guy who took the bomb in his ear went up to the bomber to apologize the next morning, and the bomber wouldn't accept his apology.

I also don't like what they do to my dogs.

That said, my dad used to buy fireworks of all different sizes by the score for our camping trips to San Felipe in the early 70s. He and the grown ups would have lots of fun setting up rockets in beer bottles and watching them shoot off the sand bluffs. One time the wind hit it just right and turned the rocket in mid air. It chased my dad all over the beach. Folks laughed about that one for years. He would sneak them home under the mattress of the cabover camper.

I guess my point is, they can be fun and entertaining if used responsibly and with respect to others be it campers, dogs, children, homeowners with palapa roofs, etc.

It's true

that the older you get the wiser you get....hopefully.
No, losing fingers is not a good thing.
Being and acting stupid is stupid at ANY age.
Funny tho how many show up for the show here in thye NW. Mucho popular!;D

It's also true that the older you get, the less interested you become in fireworks or

bodysurfing or

skiing or

mountain climbing or

windsurfing or

well you get my point. Now damn it, quit gettin' old!!!!

Yet actually safer than the M whatevers that have the plaster in the ends to seal them up. A friend of mine has a big chunck of meat gone from his right calf, that the plaster from the end of an m-80 took out. Your purely papered and taped version is better designed for letting off steam and producing just noise and little projectle damage. We used to do more or less the same with old cope cans.
