fly/camp spots NW states inquiry
we want to do some flyin' and camping this summer. mission is to find campable airports and/or air strips where camping is allowed and they have
showers and the like, we'll be pretty self contained and only occaisionally do a motel and rental car to re fresh - otherwise its tent bags air bed
and coleman stuff.
we want to stay either ocean close or mountain high - stay cool etc.
anyone recommend spots or a good guide book for this sort of thing?
Nor cal, wash, oregon, idaho and montana are targets, the northwest basically.
thx for any comments here!

Here's a list of airports in the NW - many with camping.

Electric City
Near Grand Coulee Dam
Lost River
Ranger Creek
Stehiken
Tieton
Wenache
British Columbia
Alert Bay
Texada (CYGB)
camping on the field with washrooms in terminal. Walk to beach, lunch at hotel, borrow van from hotel.
Tofino

Vargas island
Beach landing. You have to be able to pull your airplane up onto the high tide sand.
Idaho
Idaho list very incomplete. Also, there are some good guidebooks for Idaho.
Preast Lake
Oregon
Alvord dry lake bed
Cottage Grove
You can camp at the south end of the runway -- right next to the river. And it's
a few blocks to town (Taco Bell, Subway, Chinese food, and Wal-Mart).

Wakonda Beach
Wakonda Beach State Airport is an emergency/recreational airport, located on the east side of Highway 101 about 2 miles south of Waldport. It is less

Fly-in camping is allowed on the airport. There are no formal facilities established, but there is room to camp in the tiedown area. There is a

Mike:
If you are near Seattle, you could stop at the Narrows airport by Gig Harbor. There's nowhere to camp by the airport but that's where I live. There's
good camping within 5 miles at Kopachuck state park.

wow, you guys are all so great! what choices!
i hope to check in with the several that have offered visits!
Newport is beautiful Sharks!
Jerry, we go by Eugene on our way to Camas WA a base with friends.
We have friends in Lebannon Or too.
And we'll hit the San Juans "hookmeup" - landed at Fri harbor for oysters in 2003! this time we'll stay in the area a while as friends have a
liveaboard there seasonally and a stateroom has our name on it for a few days!
need a stop around Bend too , to check in with Baja Steve.
so.....a lot of time in OR, WA and BC!
Got several buds, new and old, on BBP saying same things and offering stops. this may be some big fun! 1st time in history we have a chance to escape
a phx summer, well at least a bunch of it!

Capitano,
Our deal stands north of the border as well as south. If a stopover at SBA is convenient, you can buzz the house and I'll come down to get you.
We're that close. We've got a 32ft. moho/guest house in the driveway now until August for your snoozing pleasure. New high-end brewery/restaurant
just opened near the west end of the airport and it's muy tasty!

And don't forget Pacific City OR. KPFC.
Do visit Newport and the Rogue Brewery. The have a Bed and Brew deal where you drink their award winning brews all day and crash in a room upstairs.
See you next month.
