Pay the 3 bucks a month for Skype to give you a phone number in the area code of you're choice. It would then ring on your computer, or they can leave a voice mail for you.

Or use Gizmo Project, very similar to Skype but they give a free phone number in the 775 area code (Nevada). Voice mails left by callers are sent to you via Email (.wav file). Been using for quite a while and happy with it.

vonage is still in place...

i wouldn't let a little lawsuit stop you from purchasing a month-to-month contract

we still have it and it works (better sometimes worse othertimes) with a SAT internet connection

in the states with DSL it works PURRFECTLY!!!

you DO get a phone number that works AND the computer DOES NOT have to be on...
the phone actually rings like a regular system

if vonage goes out someone else will buy the contracts...
too much income here...

the company is solvant...
the problems are involved with stealing the technology from another source and they got caught...too bad

if you have DSL in mexico you would be a "penny-pinchin fool" NOT to get it.:tumble:

We have Vonage and it works just fine. Not exactly like talking on a land line. We got a 415 area code so my mother in law can call us for free.

If you have DSL, you can use most of the VOIP services and Vonnage is great if you need a number for people to call. If you are on satellite, then it is more of a situation where it works some or most of the time but there will be a noticeable delay. I loved the old Crystal voice which would let me check messages from home and those few phone calls I needed to make were acceptable even with the delay.

Woeful Vonage

The latest news (from Vonage) is that they have "created" downloadable software workarounds that do not infringe upon Verizon's Technology and will allow them to remain in business even if the Appeals Court rules against them. That is likely since they ARE Guilty, but it is never certain how the court will rule. Left unsaid is how solvent the company will remain once they have to fork over the Millions held in trust against the verdict.

In any case, the verdict will be fairly soon since they granted Verizon's request for an expedited Appeal (60 days) as opposed to Vonage's request for Six Months.
