thrifty office in La Paz

Hey, does anybody here have a direct email address to Thrifty car rental in La Paz? We reserved a car a few months ago for $88 base rate per week, and now we have friends coming who are getting a $300 and higher rate :?:...I thought we might do better contacting the office directly....or if anybody here has any suggestions or knows of any car rentals in La Paz who might do better on pricing, please let us know! Thanks! I know it's summer and the rates are up, but that's a big hike in $$$!

hey woody in OB, I was wondering that myself... it looks like nationally, they are probably up in the states due to summer vacations, but I thought in Mexico they shouldn't be hiked that high, but that's my lame opinion  I thought maybe I'd have better luck contacting the offices in La Paz directly, we always rent with Thifty and it's been the same guy at the counter at the airport for at least the last 5 years, I *KNOW* he must have a direct email!

Mrsla,

How did you make your original reservations? A couple of years ago I reserved a car for my arrival at the Loreto airport with Budget. I printed out my reservation with that showed the rate.
When I turned the car back in at the airport counter they presented me with a bill that was $100. greater than the rate quoted in my reservation printout. I protested and showed them my printout. The guy at the desk asked "Where did you get this rate". I told him to read it....that it was from Budget's online res system. He reluctantly honored it.

The reason I am relating this story is because I believe you can get the lowest rates online....not from the local desk. At least, that's the way Budget worked for me.

Kate, thanks for that info, I really appreciate you looking that up for me!

Toneart.. yes, I indeed made the original reservation thru the website, which I do every year..... but the rate thrifty.com has posted now is excessively higher than what I reserved, and yes you are right, you GOTTA bring the original paperwork with you for situations like you mentioned... the specials on the website mostly expire in June so I'm hoping they come out with some other "specials" because there is nothing too special about what's posted now! :o I would think that summer rates in La Paz would be comparable if not less than what they had going in April but I'm probably wrong, unfortunately! Never hurts to email the La Paz desk directly, it's the same guy that's been there many years, and he's very nice!

last time i rented there, 2004 baja 1000, i spent $169 US for 4 days, 3 nites. a good deal as far as i was concerned. i did it on line a month ahead, showed up with my internet based printed res form and got kingly service.
$88 for a week has to be a mistake.

I rent at SJD almost monthly... in January the rate went from $17/day(economy) to $32... two weeks ago it was still up... counterman says price is going to stay up saying they are busy all year... they always give me a "free" upgrade" but the price has become unacceptable...

taking a spare pickup to leave at the airport....

Yes always bring your confirmation letter! I used to work for a car rental company. I once went to England and picked up a car at Heathrow and they tried to charge me way over the rate I had reserved but fortunately I had proof of what I had reserved.

Also in the Yucatan last year, I had reserved a minivan from Hertz and when we arrived they said they didn't have one so they were giving us a larger van AND making us pay a higher fee. I demanded to talk to the manager and, an hour later, they finally agreed to honor the original rate. The good news to that story is after I got back to the states and complained to the Hertz corporate office they gave me $100 in free rental coupons!

I would also like to plug the Hertz office in Loreto, we have rented from them three times and they have been excellent and rates the same as Budget.
