While going through The Squarecircle,La Turquesa trip I notice that Dk mention that He (squarecircle) name his New Land Rover "WINSTON"so one question comes to mind. What's your Baja rig's name if it has one and if you are kind enough to post a picture of it..Thanks Nomads.

Here is mine
It's a 2004 DODGE RAM 1500 4WD(with a HEMI)..
I CALL IT "BIG RED"

For years and years it was "Artichoke"------a 1969 Ford pickup, the color of an artichoke bloom, with a Callen Camper on it and huge tires----went everywhere in that rig.

Now it is semi-retired in Independence, CA at my son's, but still smoking!

The Callen Camper is now on my 1994 Ford F-250 4x4, and the "new" rig is called, "Copper".

Don't know how to "post" pics.

Mary Ann

She was beautiful just sitting there on the showroom floor and only 3250$ out the door, the year 1965,Dodges latests offering,an all powerful 3/4 ton,4x4,318,4 speed no radio, heater yes no ac.

Her name was MARY ANN so named by my girls on the last sister heading south, where the year before we were lucky to get out alive in a VWbus.

The chant would start at Puertecitos,"come on Marry Ann you can do it"and last till we got out of the hills, she was truly one of us

Here's my daughter near El Chinero. She refers to my Dodge Ram simply as "Trucky".

Ours is known as Big Dog, we've had sveral pickup-shell combos and traveled Baja one end to the other and east-west for 35 years in assorted dune buggy offroad cars too, but Big Dog is the most comfy.

Fords of various models and vintages. They are always referred to as "The Rig."

The first Baja rig was a crewcab VW pickup I called "Hammerhead". When I started going back with my new wife in 1993 we took the Ford E-150 we had driven to Central America on our honeymoon. Before that trip the guys at Dick Cepek in Pasadena recommended a suspension shop in Huntington Beach which heated and bent the twin I-Beams and put in big coils in front. They did an aweful job, and by the time these pictures were taken, the front end was so unfixably out of whack that "she" was like herding pigs with a stick. When she made it back, I got her the license plate you see which was her name and has been on every Baja vehicle since.

We started out with Lucita, burrita an 86 Jeep Wagoneer. I still prefer the way this car handles, seems to hug the off road. And we have put in some memorable miles in her.

Next came "The Beast" 86 Ford with camper and very high clearance. Love this one too but I cant drive it because I cannot depress the clutch in far enough to change gears...si soy chapara! This baby will go anywhere anytime.

Then we got Lucille, the red haired woman. A 96 Red Jeep Cherokee, which I cannot stand. It feels like it is going to fall apart at any moment.

We still have all of the above plus a 91 GMC crew cab, long bed that we brought down when we moved which we always called jimmy. Not much on the off road but I prefer to drive it around town even though it is just over 19' long.

No name

My 1st baja rig was called the Bomb! No photo cuz it is long gone. It ran on Propane and gas. GMC Jimmy 4X4 with 75 gal propane and 30 gal of gas. At the time I paid only about 35 cents for a gal of propane. It was a fun rig.

My current rig has no name although some people call it the stinky diesel.
