Cabo in September?
Hello,
Two friends and I would like to fly into Cabo San Lucas in mid-September, rent a car, and spend five days exploring the cape region. But I've read
that September can be a bad month to be there due to the rain and storms. Should we be concerned about this? How likely is bad weather at that time
of year?
Any help or suggestions are appreciated!

like everything in life the odds are 50/50. it will be crappy or it won't. it is the peak hurricane month, but hey, what are the odds your dates will
have a hurricane go by, or directly overhead?
50/50
edit: i'd go anyway. it'll be fun no matter what. BTW, let us know when you get back which 50% you got!

Thanks for the reply.
Let's suppose we do catch a hurricane. Do they affect the whole region? Could we spend a few hours driving to a different part of the cape and enjoy
better weather? Do they typically last for hours or days?
Thanks again!

You would have plenty of time to leave the area before a storm came. There have been times when they sit right off the coast and we get rain for 3 -4
days. Come down enjoy yourself. If you do get the 50% with a storm heading our way you can figure it out then.

Hiya
Driving can become a problem as bridges and roads wash out if it is a big storm. And if it is a huge storm you could be stuck here for up to a week
Driving away from the storm is not an option.
Some friends of mine just emailed me and wanted to come Sept 25 and I told them no, dont come...hottest, most humid, blah blah. It is definitely the
worst month to plan a trip but I like Woody's attitude.
Hey, the fishing is good and the surfing can be great.

yorm. Be prepared to add 1/4 more $ for the trip. Things cost more in the Cabo
area. Storms are a hit or miss thing, you know it's gonna be hot. Have a great trip and keep us posted.

Most storms start out hundreds of miles south of here as tropical depressions. We all track them for days, weeks as they go west or come north to
effect the cape. Many times, what you cannot dream of can become a one in a lifetime series of accidents that find you safely home with memories no
normal vacation could give you. Go For It. I've met loads of folks who got stuck down here with a verifiable dead bang excuse while they were a week
late getting back to the house, the job, the hum of the drum stuff they left behind.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. Sounds like we'd be better off pushing the trip back to October (if we can). That's a bummer though cuz I'm really
excited about this trip!

I would add a "Go for it" remember the worst rain in Cabo history was in November and it was not even a hurricane.

I've been going for 30 years and this september I'll be back--if there's a hurricane brewing I'll either still go or figure if I should stay home on
the day set for departure.

This is a classic example of how "baja people" are different. Baja people would rather wait out a raging chubasco on the east cape than spend a week
in Vegas! Obviously, us baja people have determined that yorm is not a real baja person (not yet, anyway). So come on, yorm! As Jerry Garcia
said..."get off the couch and go have a look around"! Go ahead and rruin your life by catching that damn baja fever! If you come, soon after getting
back you will be obsessed with such quandries as ....suburban or tacoma....Bilstein or Rancho....BFG's or Scorpion's....tent trailer or pick up
shell....longboard or shortboard...troll or bottom fish......sigh......so many questions, so little time.

When in Cabo check out the tall curbs, they are there for a reason. I was in Cabo 1 time when it rained in the mountains it didn't take but about
30-45 minutes and the streets were full up to the tops of the curbs, about 40 min later it was gone.

To the point, September benefits from the heated waters of summer, there can be waves on both coasts, it's generally good fishing, there are often
afternoon breezes in the Cabo region and to the north on both coasts which help cool the weather. September has a feeling like no other month besides
the foreboding (real) fears of hurricane. Now don't get me started on October... in la paz we say its the most horrible weather of the year with
temperature changes of 40 degrees f in a day... You get to complain you are freezing cold in 72 degree weather?

Yorm,
If you decide on October try to plan it to avoid the Bisby Fishing Tournment. It is filled to the brim then. And if fishing is your pleasure try to
get there before the Bisby, or a week or two later.
Have fun.
