? Rental Tax ?
I know about hotel taxes .... but, I just received a quote from a Todos Santos agent for a long term rental ... and she added a 13% tax to the quote
...... I then went online to find that the 13% is a "Hotel Tax" ...... what goes here .... I can understand this on a vacation rental but is this
customary for long term home leases ?? Question Am I Being Jacked-Up
Here ? Your comments are welcome, CaboRon

I have rented since 1993 and never paid a tax, however I rent directly from my Mexican landlord and not an agent.

Ron....... if the property is a rental business and not a private single personal home, that... is being rented ...then the tax is necessary to be on
the "up and up" with the government agencies. The property you are referring to must be that, if the rate included that 13% tax. Normally any rental
should pay a 10% IVA tax ( to be legal).... a property that is solely a rental business pays an additional 3%.

tax is correct...using an agent
if you rent from a private party...maybe no tax but the owner would still be liable for taxes due

I'm surprised it is only 13%. On the mainland is is 17% (IVA + 2%).

IVA for gasoline is more on the Mainland than Baja also.

I understand everyones need to hold expenses to a minimum ... at the same time, to be able to live and work here it is important to be incompliance at
all times... of face the consequences.
One can find places to rent once one is here and they may or may not charge the tax; However, being charged the tax is in no way being jacked up... It
is just being ..."in compliance".

And I do appreciate the communication .... I guess I was just trying to rent in an area that is out of my league. And I do appreciaate the time
you and your partner put in. The tax thing was unexpected and simply blew my budget out of reality. CaboRon
