new airport for Ensenada?

The Ensenada newspaper El Vigia is reporting plans to construct an international airport north of Ensenada (MMES)
(approximately R155/35 of TIJ VOR).

The investment of 230 million dollars is funded by groups in Canada, USA and Europe.

The runway would be 4000m. (13,123 ft) long and would serve any long haul jet.

Designed to offload the LAX "bottleneck" it would presumably be of interest to other SoCal residents in greater SAN and TIJ, where siting a new long haul airport would be difficult.

20 environmental studies are complete. Of interest to pilots is the mention of the new facilities...hangars, heliport, aerial taxi, aviation school, control tower etc.

A four lane highway is mentioned as well as a large desalination plant.

The location of the new airport at 370 meters ASL (1213 ft.) might well alleviate the "marine layer" considerations that complicate life at the oceanside MMES airport.

Further, rumor is afoot that yet another airport may be constructed east of Ensenada!

Elections are scheduled for August 5, both for Governor of Baja North and the City of Ensenada.

Don't some of those hot private jets require really long runways ? - CaboRon

no, actually the longer RWs are for big heavies, freighters.
and due to high ground temps and as a function of local elevation.
