Home Depot Ensenada-Again
Anyone know if they have drywall and Cement backing board for tile?
I've been through the store a couple of times, but I don't recall seeing these items.

I've heard other places aren't as expensive, but I'm not that familiar with the Ensenada area. We're always passing through. never spent time there.
Maybe this trip I'll make a few extra stops and check a few of the other lumber yards and hardware stores.

Sheetrock everywhere. Can't give you a competitive price but, Home Dpo will be as high, or higher, than most.
I've been laying Durock all morning. 4x8 -- 1/2 inch tile underlayment. Five bucks cheaper per sheet from my source in Punta Banda than HD. That's
delivered.
All Durock sizes are available. Green board as well.

the cement board is outside by the pick-up area
we got 4 sheets there last trip
don't remember the cost (CRS) sorry
edit: oh yea it's so brittle we had to unload the trailer and load the stuff on the bottom so it wouldn't break
remember that when you get it...you've got a long drive head of you

Yeah...Ouch. Heavy too. I don't understand HDs method of operation when so much of their building materials are more expensive than their small
competitor. It pays to shop around.

We'll be there next Thursday and thinset is on the shopping list so we'll be in that department. We won't arrive in BCS and have the sat. set up until
Saturday or Sunday. How soon do you need the info?

bags. they also sell a saltillo grout at the home depot in california. would you look at that also? it is also in a large bag. thanks very much, i

Home depot Ensenada had a "rapido setting Mortar", but they only had one type that was specifically labeled "thinset" and it didn't mention that it
was a quicksetting type. All mortars and thinset bags were 20 kg size and I think most were around $49 pesos (does that sound right because I
neglected to write down the prices) ? When you go in the main entrance, continue straight ahead and the flooring materials are to the left of the
kitchen cabinet displays.
I didn't see anything that was labeled as Saltillo grout. They had sanded and regular grout, and both came with and without a "sealer" in the mix.
And they did have the greenboard .

If your tiles are "gaged" which means smooth and flat on the bottom and all the same height, then you can yse a thinset mortar. If not, you will need
a regular mortar as it gives better build-up for use with a larger knotch trowel or bed-setting. If your tiles are not sealed, make sure to seal them
before installing so the mortar and grout don't stick.
There is no special Saltillo grout, Use sanded grout in a Saltillo color or natural cement color for a more aithentic look.
Make sure to add another coat or two of sealer when you're done grouting.

diver: i will be using a 1/2" trowell and i would like to use some quick set thinset so i can grout the same night or the next morning. time is
limited for this job. i have set and sealed tile before and i always sealed after installation, before grout. i have been told that i should seal
the saltillo tile BEFORE i set them. and seal 2 more times when completely done. do you know why i would need to do this? any reason why i can't set
them, seal, dry, grout, seal, seal?

Fandango,
The Saltillo tiles are not sealed so any excess mortar that you get onto the tiles will set into the pores of the tile. Even acid will not remove it
all.
Also, check the grout and thinset directions as most recommend waiting at least 24 hours before grouting. If the mortar is not fully cured, the grout
will show uneven color from the mortar leaching into the grout.
Also, a quickset mud will make you mix smaller batches more aften and allow much less working time.
