For clarity about Mexico Nuclear and possible Power for Baja

It was stated in a thread, Mexico had 2 power plants and I did wonder where...Mexico has 2 reactors...one power plant. Maybe that is what was meant and I misunderstood...interesting info anyway...has anyone heard more info about this fire recently?

(moderator's note: as the anonymous and unconfirmed report on a fire posted on this
group today at the Veracruz nuclear power plant sparked my interest and I found this
article from March 2006)

ASSOCIATED PRESS
1:31 p.m. March 9, 2006
VERACRUZ, Mexico – Mexico's only nuclear power plant was operating at full capacity
Thursday after workers replaced a damaged electric cable that forced the plant to
temporarily shut down one of its two reactors the day before.
The Laguna Verde plant resumed regular operations about 10 p.m. local time Wednesday
night (0400 GMT Thursday), said Luciano Constantino, spokesman for Mexico's Federal
Electric Commission, which owns the plant in the city of Alto Lucero, about 80 kilometers
(50 miles) northwest of the port city of Veracruz.

Plant operators shut down the No. 2 reactor about 10 a.m. Wednesday (1600 GMT) after
the cable providing its electricity was damaged. The No. 1 reactor was not affected and
continued to operate.
Officials called the incident "minor but unusual," saying neither workers nor residents of
the nearby community needed to be evacuated, and that no damage had been done to the
environment.

"The report is that activity is normal and peaceful," Constantino said late Wednesday night.

The nongovernmental ecology group Greenpeace recently alleged that the most recent
audit of the plant detected safety issues. Constantino strongly denied that assessment.

"The plant has worked safely and efficiently for 15 years, from April '91 to March of 2006,"
he said.

Dos ?

I'm not sure, without looking back on the original discussion. whether someone may have indicated that there were two independent Power Plants in service, but I stated correctly (according to information I read) in that post:

"With two nuclear reactors working since 1989 and 1994 accounting for a current production of 4.6 % of their power generation usage........"

They are Laguna Verde 1 and Laguna Verde 2.

My bad MrBill...bad assuming on my part...I walked away thinking there were two locations. Not worth going back. More interested in a reported fire at those reactors....
