Beach Run To Puertecitos
I was thinking about making a beach run to Puertecitos from San Felipe (Villa Marina RV Park) 12 miles south of town when I get down their in
September or October. How many places does the land extend out to the water and you cannot continue down the beach? Can you go inland to get around
and then back to the beach? The last time we went down the beach we got as far Campo Cristina and were stopped and ended up going west to the highway
and south to Puertectios to have our picnic lunch. I understand I have to run the mud flats between Percebu and Santa Maria. Years ago when I had my
1987 Samari I think I made it all the way from San Felipe to Puertecitos on the beach. The beach was a lot different then. Who knows my memory is not
so good anymore.

Jack, be prepared for a bunch of busy buddies to tell you about the laws you will be breaking...
At Laguna Percebu, you will drive over the mud flats for 6 miles to Bahia Santa Maria area to get around 'Shell Island'.
South of Coloradito, the sand becomes gravel and is much harder to drive over... I did this run in 1977 in my Subaru...

There is a spot around Punta Estrella where there are cliffs, actually closer to Percebu. But the water does reach the cliffs at a higher tide. Easy
to bypass, drop back on the beach right away though, there is a new development just north of Percebu, and they are trying to block access. Look for
the fish camp, access there.
Again, at a lower tide pass next to the house that is across from the Cantina at Percebu to enter the beach, follow the tracks to Santa Maria (our
campo) on the salt flats, do not stray! You should make it all but the last three miles to Puertocitas, you'll see the cliff in front of you blocking
the way.
I does turn to more gravel that sand past Campo San Martin or so, but still a great cruise. We do that run every couple of months in our full time
Baja trucks, and pick up stuff along the way, lots of fun.
Remember to wave at everyone you see, and they'll wave back!

I have 3 vehicles. 1993 GEO Tracker stock except for headers. 2005 Honda Quad TRX300EX. Just got this one VW sand rail with 1641 engine.

Good fleet!
We have: 88 Toyota P/U 4x4, 85 Bronco ll, 6 various quads.
When you get closer to your trip let me know as you'll be riding/driving right past our front row home at Santa Maria.
We'll be there Labor Day weekend as well.
Haven't had a bad trip yet....

The last few Years I have done that ride on M/C
It would be hard to do in a 4wd at high tide--not much beach left in a few places.
Most of it no problem at low tide
A couple of places you need to go inland
Perceube and punta Estrella

Low tide and of course - always bring extra fuel. Running the beach gets lousy mileage. Especialy in that pebbly stuff from Coloradito and south.
