Friends on the Beach
When I took this I imagined these two cormorants to be saying to each other(edit to correct spelling, thanks Hook).
Well honey, my wings are dry how about yours?

This is a better shot. They let me walk up pretty close to them.

Cormorants are astounding..........I remember one lean year when they were diving about 25 foot down to steal our live baits off our hooks while
fishing the kelps. We eventually had to move..........and they just followed. So, we were forced to drift for halibut out farther.
Amazing divers and swimmers; they might be the ultimate evolution of a sea bird. They can feed on the surface or at depth. I see them at lakes far
inland, too.
EDIT: just checked wiki and cormorants have been known to dive to depths of 45 meters. And I was impressed with 25 feet!!

perhaps it is the "fermentation" of the diet as it releases itself through the skin of the cormorant that is so appealing.....as if to say, "look here
mama, i am the master of the deep dive, and i'll provide your bebe's mucho pescado tambien!!!!!!"

Yes, they certainly are. You know that in China they are trained to "fish on command" for their owners?

They are truly amazing birds. I have seen them cruising along underwater at 100 feet and in flight:
They nest in trees:
In the Galapagos, where they lack any topside predators, they have lost the ability to fly and their wings are evolving into appendages that look more
like penguin flippers. This is a bird that is really more like a fish or a marine mammal than a bird. Except for that nesting in trees thing.

Here is a Bob Cat my friends saw on the beach here and was not about to give up his meal to them so they took a couple of photos and gave it a wide
birth.
