SCORE International announces special evening:
'40 YEARS TO GLORY' Gala to be held Sept. 27
Tickets go on Sale Wednesday for Huge Tribute Celebration
Honoring the Legacy of Four Decades of Baja 1000 History
LOS ANGELES--Conceived as a once-in-a-lifetime evening celebrating the unique history of the internationally recognized Tecate SCORE Baja 1000
desert race, SCORE International President Sal Fish and noted off-road historian and event producer Marty Fiolka have officially finalized plans for
their ‘40 Years to Glory’ gala event. It will be held on Thursday, Sept. 27, 2007 at the Long Beach Performing Arts Center, located in the heart of
downtown Long Beach, Calif.
‘40 Years to Glory’ will represent the largest evening of its kind in desert racing history.
“The Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 stands tall as the granddaddy of all desert races and this special night of tribute will pay honor to the legacy of this
unparalleled motorsports event,” said Fish. “I have always said that this event is much more than a race; it is an adventure. By working with Marty
Fiolka, we will be able to honor those amazing adventurers who have etched their names in the history of this unique odyssey.”
‘40 Years to Glory’ will incorporate several unique and separate elements honoring four decades of the sport that began with the original Mexican 1000
in 1967. The gala will officially kick-off at 5:30 p.m. with the “Baja Tailgate Party,” staged in the Performing Arts Center’s fountain plaza, where
guests and honorees can enjoy the world’s largest display of vintage and historic desert racing vehicles and motorcycles, live music, c-cktails and a
buffet-style dinner.
That activity will be followed at 7:30 p.m. by the ‘40 Years to Glory’ tribute in the 3,000-seat Terrace Theater,” a multi-media trip through four
decades of Baja racing featuring live music, video presentations and a who’s-who list of honorees receiving specially-made awards. Event organizers
are focused on gathering the sport’s most influential stars and the finalized list of celebrity honorees will be announced over the coming weeks.
The night will be capped off with an equally vibrant “Baja After Party” back on the plaza; a time for desert, refreshments and plenty of bench racing
amongst the stars and cars that have given desert racing history such a colorful and internationally recognized place in the world-wide motorsports
scene.
Tickets for this never-to-be-repeated event will be $75.00 per person, which will include event admission, dinner, and a commemorative event program.
Like a concert or play, guests will also be provided with a reserved seat inside the Terrace Theater and sold on a first-come, first-served basis.
Tickets will go on sale Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2007 beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the Performing Arts Center box office or from Ticketmaster online at http://www.40yearstoglory.com/ or by calling (213) 480-3232 or (714) 740-2000.
‘40 Years to Glory’ is being produced by SCORE International, Sal Fish and Marty Fiolka, and is being patterned after the highly memorable “1000
Miles to Glory” night held at the Los Angeles Petersen Automotive Museum in September of 2000. That evening was the first of its kind, and is
considered by many to be the launching pad for today’s resurgence of desert racing kicked off by that year’s epic Tecate SCORE Baja 2000.
This year’s 40th annual Tecate SCORE Baja 1000, the season finale of the six-race 2007 SCORE Desert Series for cars, trucks, motorcycles and ATVs,
will be held Nov. 10-16 as a journey down Mexico’s majestic Baja California peninsula. With pre-race activities in Tijuana, the race will start in
Ensenada and finish some 1,300 miles later in Cabo San Lucas. With nearly 350 entries expected from 40 U.S. States and 15 countries, the historic
race will be taped by NBC Sports to air on Dec. 30 on NBC TV, followed by numerous worldwide telecasts on ESPN International.

I would love to go but I'm thinking of doing the CODE MXL Logistics race on the 28th. Not enough time to recover from all the beer I would drink....
