House Fire Leaves Family Homeless

Following is from the Punta Banda community bulletin board that is published daily. Jesus, Mari and their family lived in this house and luckily, all are safe...

This afternoon(Sunday, 8/19) the home of a dear Mexican family exploded and then burned to the ground. They lost everything; they have nothing! The family consists of a husband, wife, and 4 boys ages 6-18. Mari worked for 2 years cleaning the Salon after events so some of you might know her. They are a dear family and need help badly.

The New Covenant of Grace church was able to give them some money, clothes, and food today to tide them over and will continue to help.

If you can donate anything, please contact Alice and Bob Olson at 154-2810 (alicebob.olson@gmail.com) who are helping to collect the items for this family.

If you can donate money, you can either leave it with the Olsons or deposit it to their account at Bancomer. The account is in Mari’s name: Maria Isabel Card##as Torres and the account # is 1436651356. (You just need to go to the bank and say you want to deposit to this account.)

This news is verified by my neighbor, as I am in Denver, CO. I'm packing up my furniture to truck to Chula Vista storage this week. My neighbor, David Lynch, is also a customer of Armando Gonzales and Jesus.

Jesus is the foreman of my home construction team. He and his crew(including 2 of his sons) work for Armando Gonzales here in Ensenada area. My first contribution is to PUMP the quality and value of Armando's work. If you are considering building in Ensenada, talk to Armando and look at his 20 years of work. (646)174-7245, Armando's home or (446)171-6806 is Armando's cell. His english is as solid as his construction.

My second contribution is to alert NOMADS in the Ensenada area. Jesus and Mari's home was just across the street from Mark Lurie's art gallery in Cantu, near the water. I have some clothing and some other items from my move that may help when I get back down there on Wed or Thurs this week.

ALLTHEBEST, Doc Dougherty

Thanks, Dock, for giving us more info on this. We didn't know who it was. I saw Armando today and he didn't mention it. But now that we know who it is, we're on it. Any idea of needed clothing sizes? When you return, maybe we can organize a something or other to get what is needed to get them back on their feet.

BUMPING this one.

Jesus proudly announced his 39th birthday to me on 8/13 on site at my home construction. He and his crew, including 2 of his sons, are building 2 beautiful homes and now he is without one of his own.

Anyone going their way and willing to stop in Pasadena to pick up stuff?

I have pots and pans, maybe furniture, clothing, etc...but its too big to ship and my weekends are booked. If the boys need school supplies, I can order up a lot of stuff for them, bookbags, etc...

Grover, THAnks.
from P.B. bulletin email post...

There will be a "benefit" potluck for the Card##as family who lost their home last Sunday. The potluck will take place at Cruiseport Village Marina next Sunday September 2nd from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

Hot dogs, hamburgers, plates, cups, utensils and ice will be provided. Please bring a dish to share, BYOB and chairs. We are asking for a minimum donation of $5.00 per person OR an equivalent donation of non-perishable food items.

As we must provide a list of those attending to the security guards, please email peggy@coloradoskiacademy.com if you would like to attend. If you need directions to the marina, please contact me as well.

For more information, visit http://www.yachtclubmexico.com/Events.htm We are hoping for 100 people to attend this potluck. Come and join us for some fun, fellowship, and enjoy the beautiful setting on the waterfront.

How did this shindig get placed at the cruise ship terminal or whatever it is? Seems like the new Ejido salon, close to their home in a familiar neighborhood would have been more productive?
Just curious, Doc.

Crisis over, still in need...

Jesus said today that thanks to many individuals, Sociedad de Vecinos and Campo La Jolla, family is recovering. New trailer is either delivered or being delivered. He did mention pots/pans + misc kitchen items. I am bringing more stuff from my San Diego trip tomorrow.

Your spare $5 - $20 goes a long way. Thanks to all for support.
