First Time Ever Fishing Trip Coming Up
We are heading out on a charter Sept 1 (out of San Felipe) with a group of neighbors, some very experienced, and some that have never have even seen a
fishing pole (that would be us). Any suggestions for a how to book we might read before we head out on the open waters? We are going more for the
adventure than the fishing but we DO want to learn to fish.

bajabound2005 -- you will really enjoy that trip. Fishing in the midriff area is fun and fascinating, you will see lots of great marine life. Are
you on one of the Tony Reyes boats?

Nope, it's baja sport fishing; someone named Gustavo and the boat is the Eric.

My checklist for multi day or long range:
Sun hat
sunglasses (bring an extra pair)
lip balm
sun block
old shirts, shorts, socks etc. (I use them for a day and leave them on deck for the deckhands...this also eliminates that stinky smell after 5 days in
a hot stateroom)
toiletries (don't forget soap and shampoo)
medicines in the original prescription container
sweatshirt and/or jacket
2 bath towels (Throw away after a few days)
flaps for shower and evening
small folding chair
bed pillow
personal music
books
vices (booze, smokes, candy, beer holder, church key etc)
Closed toed shoes or boots for fishing
camera
batteries
diary
For Fishing
Sabiki rigs for making bait
Asst. of good hooks in 4/0, 6/0, 8/0, 10/0
Torpedoe sinkers in 60z - 16 oz.
Krocodiles in your favorite colors
Iron jigs in Scrambled egg, dorado, white and white/blue.... 6X size
egg sinkers
dikes or clippers
extra 30#, 40# and 60# line
screwdriver, reel wrench
rod belt
I consider this stuff to be the bare minimum.

BB2005,
If you come back and find you enjoyed the fishing thing. Consider San Quentin for a trip. Little more than 3 hours from you, this time of year great
fishing within 1-1 1/2 hrs from the dock and it won't be 100 degrees. Albacore, tuna, yellowtail, dorado, and white seabass are all possible in
August through October. Hope you have a great time.

I really don't think there are any good books on the specific type of fishing you'll be doing on your trip. There are few written about Baja fishing,
and those seem to be about fishing for billfish, or trolling lures from small boats (The Baja Catch.)
To help decipher the list of fishing tackle items, I'd suggest goint to Charkbait
http://www.charkbait.com/indexT.htm
Browse through that and you'll find descriptions and photos of most of the tackle items rdrrm8e lists.
Better yet, if you can visit a tackle shop before then take the list in and get them to help set you up.
But there is really no better way to learn that to be there, do it, and watch and learn from the more experienced fishermen and crew members. Don't
worry, you'll catch fish.

We'll take the list to Squidco in SD; if there's anything that can be added, I'm sure they'll suggest it. Thanks for taking the trouble to compile it.

I'm a sport---just the golf ball cannon. What part of the fish do you aim for?
