A Baja California Ranchers wife
A Baja California Ranchers wife called the local phone company to report her
telephone failed to ring when her friends called and that on the few
occasions when it did ring, her dog always moaned right before the phone
rang.
The telephone repairman proceeded to the scene, curious to see this
psychic dog or senile lady. He climbed a telephone pole, hooked in his
test set and dialed the subscriber's house. The phone didn't ring right
away, but then the dog moaned and the telephone began to ring.
Climbing down from the pole, the telephone repairman found:
1. The dog was tied to the telephone system's ground wire with a steel
chain and collar.
2. The wire connection to the ground rod was loose.
3. The dog was receiving 90 volts of signaling current when the number
was called.
4. After a couple of jolts, the dog would start moaning and then
urinate.
5. The wet ground would complete the circuit, t hus causing the phone to
ring.
Which demonstrates that some problems CAN be fixed by peeing and
moaning.
Just thought you'd like to know.

I used to be a SIRT (Station Installation Repair Technician) with Mtn. Bell (along with my own company for a few years).
I can personally attest that ring current will make you pee your pants.
But I would cuss...not moan!
Mom always told me to be different - Now she says...Not THAT different

Telnor would have hooked the test set to the dog.

You no doubt have read my story of the "act of god" destroying our brain mapping equipment! Great story and I believe it.

Another OLD Urban Legend
A Funny Joke.
It is quite possible that the incident described occurred at Some Time and Place given the Ringing Voltage. I, myself, have been nailed by Ring and
Carrier Voltage on numerous occasions during Twenty + years with GTE.
HOWEVER, it is also true that this has become another one of those Urban Legends.
I first heard this story with GTE in 1975 or 1976 and I've heard it time and time again over the years with the date and location changed.
BTW, I can't speak with authority regarding MEXICAN Telephone circuitry, but in the U.S., the telephone terminal equipment is not dependent on EARTH
Ground.
I know. Picky, Picky.

Speaking of Which
There apparently ARE some problems that can be solved by P__sing, if not moaning.
No, I'm not referring to those who drink their own.
The major Diesel manufacturers are injecting Urea into the Engine Exhaust systems to cut down on the amount of Carbon Monoxide and Nitrogen Oxide
emissions from their vehicles.
That's NOT an urban tale.
