Want stories about Hospitals, Building a Home, or other Baja Experiences!

There are some great story-tellers, and writers on this board... if you would like to be included in an E-book on Baja (short stories, a few paragraphs about experience, advice you have for other expats etc.) --

Viva La Baja! The Complete Relocation Guide to Baja, Mexico for Families and Retirees

Please email vivalabaja@yahoo.com. The book will be available by October 1st. Included throughout the text are stories by expats - that's you! - to give real-life perspectives for expat wannabees on subjects such as: Health care in Baja, Building a Home in Baja, Banking in Baja, Homeschooling Children in Baja or attending public or private schools, etc.

Health section needs input from locals -
Have you even been evacuated in an emergency? Been treated at a hospital or clinic, etc.

Any story is of value and will be considered or added if possible.

Thanks in advance! Molly

I once suffered a hand mangling dog bite and went to ISSTECALI Hospital emergency for treatment. The doctor on duty, a young woman, became my doctor for follow-up at her office. So, daily for two weeks I'd go to her office and sit in this wierd chair which had me prone on my back with my legs supported high in the air while she cleaned the wound and changed the dressing. She was a gynecologist with a good sense of humor.

Love the story Dennis -- if you can give a little more info on ISSTECALI Hospital (is government, private, where located...) and if you had insurance or not - and how much the treatments were, Iīd find a spot for it.

I need to know where you live as well, if you donīt mind, and a last name -can be included or not...

Looking for other stories on health care in Baja -- What insurance policies are best... etc. Thanks.

ISSTECALI [ it may even have one more "S"] is in Ensenada, close to what is now a cruise ship terminal. This happened fifteen years ago. Cash is all that was happening at the time but, it wasn't much. If memory serves, 60 dollars at the hospital and 15 per visit in the stirrups.
The hospital is highly regarded but I don't think it's private. It may even be connected with the Social Security system. Don't know. Good hospital though.
At the time, I lived across the street from the hospital. Still in the same general location.

Do you have a rough idea of the production schedule, editorial submission cut off date or final cutoff and any other project info to help us writers understand the project, the role of contributions, its intended audience and purpose? Cool project.

OOOWE. We have wonderment. Is this really a production to enlighten Baja People? Or is this one these worn-out first time fonts of knowledge that are meant to set the new-comer on a forwarned path?
Seems gnukid brings questions worthy of answer.

Gnukid - I like the photo (the color I would paint my boat... if I had one...)

I mentioned above the E-book will be published by Oct 1st... thatīs my production deadline - as articles are introducing it in two online publications that month. You can get a little more info from www.vivalabaja.com - but is a work in progress... photos and download of book completed by Oct.

Stories like the one above offered by Dennis arenīt really what I am looking for, or what the intended audience (retirees and families) would find of value. Maybe if he has a run-in with a male proctocolgist, Iīll give it another review.

I re-submitted the request on other forum, as realized it wasnīt really a question about Baja, but more of a request for Baja Nomads, most of whom I think are pretty cool people. :tumble:

Email if you have more questions - info@vivalabaja.com

BajaBad..........
I tried to post to your other effort here but couldn't..........
Could you give us more information about your project? What is your point? We can only hope it's not one of those guides to living in Baja. There is no formula for answering that question that could be put together in less than three large volumns. The childish efforts of the past are stacked up like unused hotcakes at IHOP.
What is your desire with your quest? Where are you? Do you live here? Do you visit here? I hope you arn't being allured by a naiveté of your interest. Let us know what's up. We're here to help.

If you're worried about health care and expect to have anything like you are used to in the free world.
DON"T MOVE HERE.....and b-tch about it.

Do not resuscitate is not an option here.

be miserable; to be an American abroad is to make others miserable.

But seriously folks.......as I understand it all the things that have appeared on this board are the property of Doug Means. Maybe Molly & co should talk to him first. All active posters added lots of info about Baja Retirement over the years and somebody sees that as a base for merchandising that info. Probably good people with good ideas. They need to talk to the owner.
