back from loreto

arrived thurs sept 6. henriette gone sunny skies. fri the water was flat around the island, but still a bit rough on the outside. the fish seemed confused but we still landed a few small dorado. sta the water was flat even 30 miles out. we trolled and got 5 nice dorado to 25 pounds, several sails, kept 2 that died (had them smoked), our friends fishing on a panga landed a small marlin. sun fished the outside of carmen for snapper and landed a 30 pound cabrillia. mon did the same, and some diving.
the road down was in good shape. nobody checked our tourist permits at GN. henriette did no damge to speak of. the desert south of santa rosalia was very green. the road work being done in loreto was a bit of a nusance, but when finished will be nice( a red colored stamped cement pattern).

It must be nice to consider the streets in Loreto a "bit of a nusance." They have been torn up for over 6 months now, the dust is very bad, there are pot holes you can lose a volkswagon in, raw sewage floating around each time it drizzles and the routes to get anywhere change on a daily basis. I guess it wears on you after a while.

The roads will indeed be nice when completed and I'm sure it will get done...........someday.

we ended up at the oasis. the rooms were great! a little high ( 75 at pinta, 75 at the cabanas etc) but they did give us buy 3 get 1 free, (made it the same). they said the kitchen was open at 5am for fisherman, NOT ONCE while we were there, but I didnt count on that anyway. we did use there dining one night and it was fairly expensive, but very good. We went to the palapa hut for diner another night and it was hard to beat, (value and taste. so on our last night we have a tradition of bringing in our catch and having the cook do it up. we decided to give the hotel the business. we gave them dorado and marlin and said "whatever the cook thinks".
It was great, marlin in a white wine garlic sauce, dorado 2 ways.... battered and fried, and garlic butter grilled.

the fish was awesome. they brought us a plate with rice and vegies, and tortillias. the per head cost was 9 bucs.

im not complaining! but we did spend another 100 bucs on drinks, we bought appetizers. last year we paid 4 bucs a head for the service at the lobster trap. I had no problem with the price and am typing this for your info only. I am going back to loreto in Nov. with my family, if we are staying 4 nights or more it will be at the oasis.
