Help out with Bank locations in towns

If you are in a good mood ;):yes:and don't mind giving a little assistance, I would love your help with one of my last tasks in finishing this a bit overwhelming of a project (94 pages, 34,000 words... time to go to the beach)

If you can give info on banks in your town (no addresses or any other info, just if you have this one or that one) I would appreciate it!

Mexican Banks in Baja and Types of Accounts
Banks: There are five major financial institutions in Baja: BBVA- Bancomer, Banorte, Serfin-Santander, HSBC and Banamex. They are located in the following towns;

BBVA – Bancomer (merged with BBVA in June of 2000):
Banorte (formerly named Bancen):
Serfin-Santander:
HSBC (Hong Kong & Shanghai Banking Corp):
Banamex (Banco Nacional de Mexico):

Cheers, BajaBad

The actual banks or ATMs? Ensenada has all of the above banks and there are ATMs for all of these banks if many location (grocery stores, for example). There is also Scotia Bank in Ensenada.

Maneadero has a Bancomer branch.

Just a thought here is the rest of text if anyone has anything to add - and appreciate the 'only ATM' comment -- not something I had thought of...

----------------

Bank Accounts: The two types of basic accounts available are... no surprise: checking and savings. Savings accounts are now available in pesos or in dollars. Now that dollar accounts are available, you don’t have to worry about losing money due to fluctuating exchange rates. Put dollars into your account, and it is dollars you can withdraw at any time. However, you can not have ATM access with a dollar account, for obvious reasons.

Checking and savings accounts may or may not charge monthly fees. Bancomer requires a minimum balance of 1000 pesos ($100 U.S.) in order to avoid a monthly fee. They will charge your account $7 U.S. any month that your balance is under 1000 pesos ($100 U.S.).

Investor accounts are also available. These include interest bearing accounts in pesos and certificates of deposit. A minimum deposit of $500 to $1000 U.S. dollars may be required to open either of these accounts. Certificates of deposit are in pesos only. They are guaranteed by the issuing bank.

Bancomer now has a dollar account called Libreton that gives you a visa debit card/atm.

Peso CD accounts can be for 28 days, 90 days or longer. 1/2 percent of the interest automatically goes to taxes.

Scotiabank Inverlat has branches in Cabo, San Jose, La Paz, Ensenada, that I know of.

I applied with them last year & was told no account without owning land in Mexico or having a FM3. Tried several branches. Even had a glowing letter from my local Scotia manager.

Oh well, guess Mexico doan wan my moola.:(

Oh yes you can still lose money....the dollar has been losing against the peso for a week. If you pay your bills here in Baja, of course, in pesos....you can still lose because the dollars that you put in that account were worth more when deposited...i. e. it will take more dollars to buy the same amount pesos.

Banamex, I believe, is owned by Citibank, which might be worth mentioning.
