Guadalupe Island Closed to Sportfishing and Sport Diving

Heard on a fishing radio show this evening and confirmed by numerous sportfishing captains that after the San Diego fleet had obtained all their permits to fish Guadalupe Island in Mexico City, the Mexican Govt. now says the permits are the wrong permits and the Island is now closed to sportfishing and diving. Not sure if the closure is immediate or to begin on a set date. I've also heard that the Mexican Govt. is pursuing the requirement of permits to fish around all islands. Don't know if this will include Gulf of Calif. islands or just Pacific side islands.
Anyone else have info. on this? Thanks

What you wanna bet this has everything to do with the border fence and the ban on Mexican trucking?

I just read on a San Carlos board that the federal government in Mexico issued an edict in March that precludes trucks over 7000# from entering or driving Mexico from the US. This has caused great consternation for some of the guys who pull large 5th wheels with a Freightliner type truck. No exceptions, supposedly. One guy's rig is stuck down there in San Carlos in a self-imposed impound. Some have supposedly been impounded at the border.

Tom-The Mexican Government, Yes...........the Mexican people, NO.

4baja, I think it applies to long haulers being allowed into the US. The Teamsters have gotten the ear of a few senators and are threatening (or have introduced a bill, cant remember) that would disallow portions of NAFTRA related to trucking interests. Naturally, the senators are arguing it on "safety" issues but the Bush Adm. says they have an inspection program in place.

Who to believe................?
