Paging Mr. Crickets (aka Hose A)

Here's a question for you and other Nomads.

At the Kenneth Cole shop in Mission Valley the other day, the clerk mentioned that the selection was much larger at the duty free store in San Ysidro. (UETA?)

I asked him if it was worth a special trip and he said yes.

So, is it worth a special trip/stop?

How does the duty free procedure work heading south?

Anything else interesting about this shopping center?

An inquiring Nomad(ess) wants to know.

I thought a 10 star super moderator was supposed to know everything

The UETA store doesn't sell shoes. They sell alcohol and tobacco products, perfume, cheap watches and purses.

The outlet mall next door may have a Kenneth Cole shop but it's been my experience that outlet merchandise is specially made for these stores, usually manufactured in China and guaranteed to glow in the dark.

I shop for Christmas gifts there.

It does. There's now a Kenneth Cole store at the Las Americas outlet mall in San Ysidro.

Nothing "cheap" at duty free. High end products including quality alcohol brands. Johnny Walker Blue Label, a bargain at $140 +-. Until recently, they sold real Rolex watches and still have a quality selection.
You can buy Tecate beer for way less than you can in Tecate, no tax, no CRV. Other brands as well.
When shopping at duty free, you have to be leaving the country with your purchase. They caravan you to the border. One could ignore the route of the caravan but, after giving them your liscence number and plate number, you won't be shopping there again with those numbers.
Duty free is a good trip.
I shouldn't mention it but, for those who smoke, you can buy American cigarettes for as little or less than you pay for Mexican smokes.

Jeezo....I'm stuck in the box.

Duty:

A special application is to a tax, a payment due to the revenue of a state, levied by force of law. Properly a "duty" differs from a "tax" in being levied on specific commodities, transactions, estates, &c., and not on individuals; thus it is right to talk of import-duties, excise-duties, death or succession-duties and etc., but not of income tax as being levied on a person in proportion to his income.

So, "duty free" would be a purchase of specific items (such as alcohol) without paying "duty" - state and federal taxes - liqour stamp taxes/fees.

I'm hanging with the wrong croud I guess. You guys are "Gucci Baja". Throw a pair of board shorts, a sarong, t-shirt, vintage Sr. Lopez and a pair of thongs in a back pack and I'm good to go.

Oh well. Just one womans opinion.

Fine clothing, thrown against the wall in the heat of passion is no more or less wrinkled than your attitude at the moment. Just drop them on the floor.

Paulina - I Was Buying a Replacement Wallet

for my husband.

One of the models they offer has a take-out feature, so you can easily pull ID out and put the other stuff back in your pocket.

He loves it and the one he had was worn out.

My fee for the "honey do" errand? Well, they had a sale on handbags and I got a beautiful one for 70% off. It's big enough to carry his and my stuff (including PDAs and a laptop computer) out of sight, it's lowkey enough in appearance that it doesn't scream "steal me!", and, if someone tried, it's sturdy enough when clamped to my side to resist . The quality of the leather, brass and construction are what make "the real thing" much better than the knockoffs I've seen in Baja. It's a good thing.

Kenneth Cole shoes in Baja - not so much
