Tacos Mision - El Rosario
Thank you, Antonio (Baja Cactus) for recommending this eatery to us! The Papas Rellenas (stuffed potatoes) were, indeed excellent. To call them
"stuffed potatoes" is a bit of a misnomer, but YOU will be stuffed when you finish one. They are actually chunks of potato mixed with, well, pretty
much anything. Bajamigo had the Papa Rellena Mision while I had the Papa Rellena Mexicana. His had ham, cheese, bell pepper and "some delcious
sauce" he says. Mine had carne asada, corn, frijoles, cheese and yes, that delicious sauce. We were so hungry we ordered some nachos to hold us over
while they prepared the potatoes. The nachos were a meal for two in themselves and also delicious. All served up with a big bowl of pickled
jalapenos and sliced carrots. The bill for 2 papas, 1 order of nachos and 2 sodas came to 140 pesos.
There is indoor and semi-outdoor seating. Order at the counter and they bring you the food. While we were there another customer ordered a burrito.
I couldn't believe it when it arrived at his table! It had to 16" long! Looked like a meal for four people! There are a few other items on the menu
(of course, tacos) but clearly the house specialty is the papas rellenas.
An added bonus is the artwork of the restaurant owner, Hugo Lopez, on the walls. Something lovely to look at while you enjoy your meal.
Small unassuming place, no beer or liquor served. Just a nice spot to have a great bite to eat.
Located in El Rosario (well, technically I think it's Ejido Nuevo Uruapan). It's maybe a mile further southbound once you go "around the bend" in El
Rosario, on the left-hand side.
GPS coordinates:
N30 degrees .04.354
W115 degrees 42.489
Buen provecho!

I thought you guys went down there to get spayed and neutered. How do you find time to wander around eating while you should be resting?

Word is, there was like 20 doctors and 100 other support people there.
That means PLENTY of time to take a look at the around for strays. There is probably not a breeder left within a 20km radius of downtown El Rosario.

GOOD! It was probably one of the FEW times that dogs were locked up if the owners wanted them to keep what they were born with.
Cody and I participated last year at the clinic in Cantu, and know what a difference these volunteer doctors and crew make.
I think a report of sorts regarding this last clinic in El Rosario would be nice to read on the Nomad board. The more one can get the word out about
this endevor the better. How about it BB'05?
ps. Please check your u2u re: membership dues.

Will post when we have the final counts. It's more like 4 vets, a handful of "layperson" volunteers from the States and about another 10 El Rosario
area volunteers (and the 2 of us who didn't really do anything because they had it well handled by the locals!). The turnout (of dogs and cats) was
good but nothing like we had in Cantu/Punta Banda!
Dennis - we had time to eat because we ate at Tacos Mision the night before the clinic!

BB....
Had you been home today, you would have been amazed. Around noon, what I thought was fog cut the visibility across the bay to about 100 yards.
Turned out to be smoke although I couldn't smell smoke. Stayed that way all afternoon. Very spooky. Very windy as well.

We are home today! And we saw it. We went in to Ensenada for the Oktoberfest. We took some pix that Bajamigo is working on now. We don't think it
was smoke -- its DIRT.

Wow..... You guys move fast.
I thought it may be dust but my neighbor says he saw lots of ash. Probably a bunch of both.

Is that your neighbor that drinks too much? No ash, no smoke, nada but dirt and dust. Photos posted on "Ensenada Windy" thread started by Sylens.

Ate a late night meal at Tacos El Rosario. They have tortas and tacos ,
all good. They make something called a Quesataco which is not to be missed. See David K's map for location. Good value. Fast friendly service.
Was crosing th boarder and had a coffee from a place called Cafe la Volada
or something like that. Pretty good not too strong or bitter. Car side servie provided by car hops that come up to your care while you are waiting in
line at the boarder. I thin k that they are supposed topen a store or two
in the USA soon.

On Bajabound's tip seen above, we hit Hugo's Taco's Mision two times this week.
What a find.
The place is clean, the ingredients fresh, and the service on the money.
Before the meal hits, your table is laden with chips, three house-made salsas, limes, jalapenos and carrots, and avocado sauce (thinned-out guac).
All of the menu items tried were excellent, but would steer diners to the papa relleno Mexicana, the 18-inch superburro, and the chorizo quesotacos.
All entrees are under five bucks.
You can BYOB too.
Far and away the best food experience we've had in El Rosario.
The only requirement for love or chorizo is confidence.

Hugo is quite the artist, too!
Here is a painting I bought from Hugo of the oasis near Mision Santa Maria... we camped there a year and a half later!

More of Hugo's art

These we some of the paintings he had up when we went through in May. We
really liked the Blue Agave painting. When we passed through again in October he had sold it. Hugo then pulled out a photo album of all his paintings
and said he could make us another one. We ordered it and he shipped it to us in La Paz in about 5 weeks. We love it. There are some differences in the
one we received and it actually goes better with the new painting on our walls. Would take a pic of it but it's getting framed right
now.
I think the world is run by C- students.
