From our trip to La Paz
My wife and I spent a week in and around La Paz the first week of August. Everything we heard about this city was so true. It is like a large 'small
town' in the way people treat others. We enjoyed more than anything watching dad and mom cruise the malecon in the cool of the evening with grandma
and the kids in the back of the truck. I realized we were watching a snapshot of our own childhood in the 50s and 60s that seems to be long gone from
much of the US today. Everywhere we look here we see signs to 'do this, don't do that', where in La Paz (and other places on the peninsula we went)
it seemed they gave people credit for having some common sense instead of trying to regulate every step of their way. It's funny...we saw people
riding bicycles on the side of the road, people in the back of trucks, people without seatbelts, etc., and yet never saw anyone get hurt. Again, it
made me homesick for yesterday in a way I hardly think about anymore. I think there can be a balance between living dangerously and legislating so
many rules to try to protect us from ourselves. Anyway, when it was all said and done and we had been home for a while (central Illinois), we
realized we had fallen in love with this city. Materially, there is not always a lot to see compared with the US, but then maybe that is part of the
fabric that holds the pacenos together so well. Anyone have an opinion on this?

mmore - La Paz is one of my favorite places! My first visit to Baja was there many years ago, and I remember being struck by how much it reminded me
of rural Illinois when I was growing up. And even though I now prefer to spend most of my time in less populated areas, there is always a feeling of
'coming home' that I get upon entering La Paz.
Your photo is beautiful. Thanks for the reminder of how sweet it is.

Hi. Gotta agree with you. If I was moving to Mexico, La Paz would be it.
Where did you take that photo?? It looks more like Melaque or something.

Thank you, Nena, for the compliment on the picture. Barry, it was actually taken a few miles southeast of La Paz in a place called Bahia de los
Muertos, but now that a golf course and condos are being built there, we call it the "Bay of Dreams". Wouldn't want people to feel uncomfortable
about spending $2 million on a building lot. If you have Google Earth, the picture was taken from approximately 23 deg 59' 37.53" N, 109 deg 49'
32.93" W, right behind the Giggling Marlin restaurant & bar. It is on the southeast coast of the thumb of land just south of Isla Cerralvo. It
was so beautiful, I can understand why people don't want to leave. But then, with the changes that are coming to the neighborhood I don't think that
is a place we would want to live even if we could afford it. Our memories will always be free, though. God bless.

I'm glad somebody asked because I've been trying to figure out where this was. B-eautiful! And I love that cloud you captured in the photo.

Baitcast,
The ladyfish turn on every morning and evening about half way out to that boat. Just heave a crocodile as far as you can and crank it in with a light
rod and reel. And hold on. It was always a fun way to end the day.

Very nice picture!
La Paz is nice. From TS, we often go every other week. Have lunch, go to the theater if there is someting on at night. camp at Tecolote and go back
the next day with fresh groceries.
The grass is always greener....
and so, there is always a better spot in Baja
