Arturo's Restaurant - Guadalupe Canyon Resort

Is Arturo cooking in his restaurant these days? If so, what does he serve, and what are his prices???

You would probably get the best answer from Steve... via email. I can't quite call Arturo a chef and his place a restaurant. Bean burritos would be safe, no refrigeration needed. Better to bring everything you need than count on Arturo for meals.

Did you get my warning about gasoline at the border?

David,

Thanks for the heads up on the gasoline at the border. It looks like we will be traveling with 6 Rubicons, a lifted/modified Cherokee, and a big/bad Izuzu Trooper, so, the Feds and the Militares will be stopping our group on every corner. I'm sure we will be examined for gasoline in our cans when we cross the border. I guess the gas will be cheaper in mexico anyways.

Hi Tim... That's right, you may NOT bring EXTRA cans with gasoline in them. Bring empties and fill in Mexico, near the border. The price is cheaper than most California stations, anyway!

Wow, that's a new one... Are they actually stopping cars at the border as you enter Mexico?

Yes, they stop you at the border IF you are 'lucky' and get a red light. They use a random red light/ green light to decide which vehicles to search.
At TECATE, I got a red light and the inspector went right to my red plastic gas can in my truck's bed to see if it was full (it wasn't). He then unscrewed my full BLUE plastic water bottle and smelled it, to make sure it wasn't gas!!! That was about 2 years ago.

Last summer (I think) they stopped 4baja's friend and turned him back because of several full gas cans in his truck. That was a MAJOR hassle... They had to get rid of the gas in front of a station by selling it cheap or giving it away, before crossing back into Mexico.

I am sure many are lucky enough to not get caught... But why take a chance and ruin the start of your vacation? As I said, Mexican gas is the same or cheaper than California gas now... and it is just as good if not the same as what you buy at home.
