A few images from Lobster Fishing
The fishermen
The bait
Help with pulling up the deep traps
Looking for the keepers
Hoping for a trap not well tied shut
Storing the days catch while waiting for the truck
It was quite an experience going out with these fishermen---such hard work for so few keepers.

Thanks for taking us along. It was refreshing to see some being tossed back.

The majority of the lobster are thrown back ---when there were 5 that measured as keepers from one quite full trap, they were extremely happy.
They also throw back the females with eggs---they really are trying to protect their future here.

The fisherman in the first picture sure knows how to pose.

Thanks Diane...up here our lobster season has been canceled. 58,000 gallons of oil on the San Francisco bay and up and down the coast....don't if it
is for good this year, but clean up is going to be a while as the winds have blown it far and wide.

Taking the time to run out with the commercial pangueros...very cool.
Nice work.

I greatly enjoyed your photo essay of these lobster fishermen. They seem very cold to me. Perhaps the winter weather has arrived.
Al G, It looks as though the citizens of Bolinas lagoon have been left on their own to keep the oil from inundating that area. I hear the locals were
in the water until 11PM last night setting up the equipment. I suppose the first days after the spill are the most crucial.

It really was not cold---we both had on light fleece jackets and by the time we came back to shore, it was well into the high 70s. It just amazes us
when we see people walking, jogging, and out on the boats bundled up for the snow.
Besides, as hard as they work, I just can't imagine being cold even if the weather was freezing.
