Kid's Surfboards ?

Realizing that my 6 year old is a bit ahead of himself, I am wanting to get him a starter surfboard for Baja.
He is about 4' tall and it will be a few years before he gets and "real" rides.
He will more likely ride the board into shore and walk on it a few times.
Any suggestions for something bulletproof but fairly light ??
There is nothing available here and I don;t want to spend a fortune.
I know some of you CA boys have taught your kids to surf.
I will be in SD for a few days and could pick something up there.

Thanks for any advice.

Costco used to sell some little foamies, might be out of season now but worth a look.

When are you heading through San Diego Diver?

We have a bunch of beater short boards down at our beach house that aren't being used. Glad to bring a couple back up when we go there and come back next weekend (Dec. 7th-9th). We live in Mission Bay, one block off of Fwy. 5 at Sea World Drive. I could even leave them out front in my absence.

These boards are 5'6" and 6'0". Perfect for a little guy learning.

Let me know, I even have kids wetsuits.

Don't want a styrofoam board.
He is already surfing his boogie standing up.

Thanks Warrier - but are you sure ?
And what happened to the kids ?
We will be in SD the 15th - 17th of Dec.
I'm thinking of a new one for the Christmas impact but might take you up on it if we can't find a source soon.

The kids got big! You'll see...

Honestly, we have all these boards, all sizes. My brother donates them to me lately, the kids (big now) used to just paddle them around in the wind driven small swells, plus we ride them being towed behind one of the jetski's, now thats fun! Again, I have plenty, and they need to get wet. I'd like to see them go to a child that wants to learn surfing.

New boards are pretty expensive, these are free. These are not damaged boards either, but in good shape. Maybe you could buy a ding repair kit to patch the usual spots, tail and nose minor dings.

Did you need a spring suit for him? I have one that will fit him, if not a couple. He can try them on here for a good fit.

Maybe you could haul some other old wetsuits for me down to Shari that we are not using any longer also.

We'll be home that weekend of the 15th to the 17th. So lets set it up.

Also, I realize that we have about 25 pair of reef/beach walker shoes that are mostly for kids up to size 8, and some sandals as well.

I'll make sure Diver gets them to you, I'm sure someone can use them there.

I have a 6'4" that I would be happy to donate. It has been well used by yours truly and has been collecting dust for the last few years. It would be ideal for a slightly I don't think I will ever use it again, and would love to see it go to a good cause! I could also ask around and see if any friends of mine have some old boards and accessories to throw in.

Let me know how much room you have for gear Diver!

Hey Geoff,

Diver will be coming to my house around the 14th/15th of Dec to pick up the loot. I live in the Mission Bay area just off of Sea World Dr. and I-5 if you want to drop that stick off here?

We met you and your Sis at the Book signing, Chuck and Chris.

This stuff will be awesome to help out with prizes at the Xmas Surf Contest here in Asuncion...so anything you can spare would be terrific...wax, leashes...sirena is on the surf team and is trying to help them out with some donations....did you see that awesome surfing santa logo on their new poster? Diver I think you'd better plan to be here the 21st so we can go to the contest.

Diver-

If you can't get it all down on this trip, I'd be happy to take some items down later. My truck is full for this trip but get down to Asuncion often. Let me know.

I work with a Surfer and asked him about cheap boards.

He said Costco has an 8'+- board that is soft on the top and has a hard plastic bottom for $100. Apparently these are used for the surf school that is run at La Jolla Shores. He has ridden one and says they work better than they should for $100.

Maybe this would work unless it is just too big.
