Mudslides in Cantu Claim Homes

Well, after the fires did their damage, yesterday's and last night's rain proved too much for the hillsides. Serious mudslides around midnight last night claimed homes, cars and anything else in its path. The debris now sits on La Carretera La Bufadora. Most damage was in the area known as Ramajal, above Junior's Burgers. No word on injuries at this time. Road (La Carretera) is down to one lane with long delays in both directions

This pic is the road up into Ramajal

Kathleen,
That is very sad news. I hope that no one was injured. There will be more needy families to add to Sr. Pabloff's list as a result of the landslides. The road delay is nothing in the big picture of things when it's compared to what these people may have lost. I'm sure Alex Jr. will be out there with his backhoe. If I were there right now I'd be there with a shovel, not clearing the road, but making sure everyone was accounted for.

I also have to disagree with what was stated in the PB newsletter. It's not the people of Ramajal who "need to take their road back", it's the people of PB who need to give a hand making sure these same people are alright.

The road has issues every rainy season. I remember a year when the road was washed out FOR DAYS. No going around or being bothered by mud. The road was GONE. Gringos who live there need to get used to to it.

When there are personal losses, such as you are reporting, that takes the concern to a higher level.

P.

There is a lot of heavy equipment there right now working away. We can't verify if there were injuries or worse, yet. Bernie at the Fruteria says "it's not true that there were no injuries or people killed" -- that's the best we can get right now.

Dear God! No more rain! Not right now! We have a huge mess on our hands here. This only gives us a little itty bitty picture of what it must have been like a year ago in Mulege!

Yup! I hope nobody was killed or injured. I got an email from a resident near me in Mulege who said the roads are muddy, but no flooding. And the river did not overflow its banks.

Update: No deaths but 3 injuries, 21 homes partially damaged, 10 severely damaged and 2 totaled. They've cleared (somewhat) the Carr La Buf. The mud is piled up on the sides of the road like snow in Boston after the plow went through! Still lots of mud on the road, down to one lane in one or two spots but it is open.

Unreal. Would not have believed the extent without the pictures. Thank you for posting them. Our house is a little further up the road and I don't think affected by the fires or the mudslides. I wish we could be there to lend a helping hand to those needing mudslingers about now.
