CBP Announces Temporary Extension of Sentri Lane Hours
SAN YSIDRO, CA. – The San Ysidro port of entry will temporarily extend the SENTRI lane hours of operation from midnight to 4:00 a.m., everyday for
six-months, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials announced today. The pilot program beginning January 1, 2008, extends SENTRI lanes
hours of operation in an effort to determine what hours are appropriate to better serve the cross-border community.
Currently, there are four SENTRI lanes at the port open from 4:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., everyday including holidays. During the pilot program, one
SENTRI lane at the port will be open 24 hours a day allowing SENTRI lane access to the 104,000 registered participants.
"In order to meet the apparent increased demand associated with success of the SENTRI program in the San Diego/Tijuana area, CBP will temporarily
extend hours. At the conclusion of the six-month period, we will determine if SENTRI hours will be permanently extended to open 24 hours," said Oscar
Preciado, port director.
The SENTRI program, or Secure Electronic Network for Travelers Rapid Inspection, was implemented at the Otay Mesa passenger port in 1995 and at the
San Ysidro facility in 2000. More than 91,000 travelers from both sides of the border are currently registered in the vehicle SENTRI program in the
San Diego/Tijuana area. About 16 percent of all passenger vehicle traffic is processed through SENTRI designated lanes at the San Ysidro and Otay
Mesa ports of entry.

protection of our Nation’s border at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the
country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws

David:
Not at this time. We currently don’t have the SENTRI workload to justify 24-hour SENTRI lane operations at the Calexico port of entry..
In October, we issued a press release announcing expanded SENTRI lane hours on Sunday evenings until midnight through November 18. We subsequently
decided to keep these extended hours going until at least after the Holidays.

Nomads asked me to ask Vince if they really had to update their Sentri info, per a bulletin they read... even if there were no changes to their
status...
Here is Vince's reply:
If Sentri participants have up-to-date address information in the GOES on-line system, there should be no need for them to do anything. Many early
participants registered using paper documents and do not even have an on-line account. Those are the people we need to reach and any other Sentri
participants who have an on-line account but have moved since initiating the account.
