6th Annual Casa de Los Pobres run - Tijuana

When daughter was in daycare we learned that the sleeping mats could not by law be re-used or sold. We volunteered to haul them away. Word got out that we were delivering the mats to the poor in Baja. The inaugural trip became a glove/sock drive and the parents of the daycare kids dropped off loads of toys and clothes.

That was 6 years ago. Daughter is now a big 5th grader. To her, daycare must seem a lifetime ago.

They have donated mats, toys and clothes ever since, and every year it gets better.

Here is my truck after picking up the goods on Friday night (does not include what is in the garage and in our Subaru wagon) -

My mom and dad show up early in the AM to clear out the rest of the goods in the garage. 2 full truck loads headed for TJ.

On the 20th of December, poor families will line up for blocks to receive gifts of clothes, toys, food, etc. I wish I could be there. We have never had the chance to participate in the event.

Happy holidays and peace to all!

Hi bajadogs

Do you have an address/directions to Casa de los Pobres. I have in the past taken goods to Palacio de Los Puercos near Erendira. This year we're not sure where we will deliver our stuff. Thanks

Crossing the border follow the signs to Centro, you’ll end up on a 1-way road toward Revolucion. Make a left on Revolucion and cruise just past the Jai Alai Palace. Make a right on 9th, also a 1-way road. After a couple of miles and many hidden stop signs Casa de Los Pobres will be on you left side behind a wrought iron gate. Signal and point and someone will open the gate if there is room to park. I can send more pix or give you GPS waypoints or Google Earth. Let me know.

Here is an address I found online -

Casa de los Pobres
Génova No.465
CP : 0, Tijuana, Baja California
Tel. : ( 664 ) 637.45.81
