Interesting; as far as I can tell, they're doing the filtering in Guadalajara; I haven't a clue how much Internet infrastructure and policies are
shared between Telnor and Telmex.

Over the last few months they moved all of our accounts from the Telnor server to a Prodigy one, but I still get some Emails with the telnor address.

We are using Yahoo and mac.com over our Telmex/Prodigy connection, with generally no problems.
We have had two emails sent to Hotmail.com (Microsoft) adresses returned in the last few weeks:
"Remote host said: 550 SC-001 Mail rejected by Windows Live Hotmail for policy reasons. Reasons for rejection may be related to content with spam-like
characteristics or IP/domain reputation problems"
IP reputation problems? Bill Gates vs. Carlos Slim.

Hi, y'all--
Any of you use third-party email providers over Infinitum? From La Paz it appears that Telmex has just started blocking connections from their
clients to outgoing mail servers that are not their own; ie you have to depend on Prodigy email servers to deliver your email from programs such as
Outlook and Eudora.
Anybody else noticed this?
--Larry |
Why would they do this? Do they charge for email transmission?

Fascinating. You mean you're sucessfully using an outgoing mail server that is NOT one of Prodigy's?
--Larry |
Ours still works. We use Apple's Mail program, and can use either one of two outgoing mail servers, yahoo's or mac.com's. We have no settings for
Prodigy; in fact we use the same mail settings whether in Loreto or Montana.

TELMEX TECH SUPPORT NO HELP
For weeks now I've been unable to use 'reply' or 'forward' features on Prodigy's email server. I can send email and receive it on Prodigy, and that's
all. I called Tech Support in DF and they say problem is not my settings and is nothing they can do anything about, as probem is internal to Prodigy
Infinitum and is just one of a number of problems Prodigy is having around the country. They led me to believe that the server was being worked on
and the problem would be corrected soon. Hasn't happened. My Norton auto-protect and email scanner functions died about the same time, perhaps
coincidence or related, I don't know.

They (ISPs) ban the most offensive spamming mail fowarding servers... yahoo, sbcglobal etc... if you have a small private mail smtp domain name like
smtp.joey.net you can use it if its not on their banned list otherwise you should use the smtp defined in your isp's setup e.g. if you use prodigy it
might be smtp.prodigy.net

... to reduce spam, basically no mail should be forwarded by prodigy networks to other send mail servers. Meaning you shouldn't be using the ISP and
using other outside send mail servers. Its the same across all large isps to reduce the number of piggyback spammers. just choose the internal ISP's
default send mail server e.g. smtp.prodigy.net while on prodigy.net or choose an alternative unique smtp server, somthing that would be unlikely to be
banned.
You can go to your accounts section in your mail application and copy the settings from your existing account and add other send mail servers, as you
move from hotspot to hotspot and change internet service provider, if you have trouble try one of your other account setups to get the mail out.

This year in TS I am using my Canadian e-mail servers over Infinitum - didn't work last year due to blocking at the Canadian end (for spam control)!

Email relay service
Prodigy blocks the usual email port (port 25) to SMTP servers other than their own. If your outgoing email server uses a port other than 25, try
changing to that one. Otherwise, search "email relay service" and you can find an inexpensive ($10-20/yr) relay service that solves this problem.
Oops, this was to be in response to "Prodigy clampsdown"

Prodigy Infinitum server, Firefox browser, COX webmail with COX.NET return address setting. No problems this morning. I have been rejected by
receivers a couple of times due to their server's screening for phantom eMail servers. The only problems I've had with Prodigy is their slowing of
speed to thwart VOIP. They haven't done that lately.

Noticed a slowdown a few minutes ago, tested with MySpeed.com, got 38kpbs. Wow! I pay for 256kpbs. I think our good friend is making a naked grab for
Holiday long distance bucks. How unlike that generous and fair-minded richest man in the world. Watch your wallet!! Hurry up CableTec!!

Speed up to very fast 868kpbs download, but only 79.1 upload. Weird. Merry Christmas to you too, Carlos.
