What's in your frig?

Friends have attempted to continue the story/myth that says
Mexican beer purchased in USA is different recipe/taste. The Tecate in my frig is a USA purchase, then "imported" here.

My taste buds can't tell the difference. You?

Doc....

Do you really think that Tecate has a different recipe for export beer? Maybe they do. Not so strong? I don't know. I do know it can be bought for less in the states than it can in Tecate. I once asked a man in a beer store why it cost more in Tecate than Ensenada. He said it was fresher. Argue with that logic.

Worked in a Dutch brewery when I was a kid. They do brew different beer for export. I think it has to do with the alcohol allowances in each country. No idea if that has any influence on taste and flavor.

And Pompano,
It's amazing how beer favorites change over the years.
I remember in the 70's, Hamm's, Olympia and Pabst topping the charts for best sellers. Nowadays they are discounted in all the stores, because you can't give them away.
Beer products really show the power of advertising.
If Bud quit advertising , you could probably buy it for $2.00 a six pack , wit $ 1.50 going to the government for taxes.:lol:

Then and Now

A few years back the alcohol content difference was resolved and the article I read said that it was standardized at 4.5 % resulting in both the Domestic and Export product being the same brew.

time for a blind beer tasting. too many wine snobs in my barrio.

Also, thanks, Bill. I've done a blind tasting on Tecate purchased on both sides of border and my construction crews couldn't tell the difference.

Bajadock.. you have peaked my curiosity...I will have to buy a 6 pack of LARGE brewery beer so I will know what Pabst Brewing is about...they were around in the 50's as a national beer. I think my daddy drank it??? I have not purchased a large brewery beer(American) in many years.

Albert G, I get lots of comments on my enjoyment of Pabst. But, I stock my frig with an ecclectic mix. That "large" brewery distinction comes from the Great American Beer Fest, held annually in Denver.

My preference runs toward more international tastes. Smithwick's comes to mind after not tasting it for past 12 months. Bohemia is my favorite mex brew.

Recently there was a promotion where you could trade in the little red tecate tabs for free beer....7 tabs get you one free beer....42 for a 6 pack...84 for 12 etc....now Juan swears that the tecate beer in the cans with the red tabs is crummy...not as good a quality as the normal silver tab cans and HE would know!

Yes, Dennis, Doc has many windows but if he has to have a favorite Mex beer, mine is Negro Modelo. And it's rarely had....
