tecate to la ribera, very quick report

just back from a trip to la ribera. left u.s. thru tecate 12/26 with a truckload of goods, hoping not to pay duty but prepared to do so. got the green light at 6:30 am, had to park down the hill and walk back to have my fm3 stamped. nobody in the office to do so, so i woke the two sleeping border guards in their truck to inquire, then they went back to sleep. they never asked about our load, which included three residential garage doors, fluorescent shop lights, etc. strapped to the lumber rack.
made guerro negro that night at dark as the traffic down the coast was very light. truck loaded with stuff was unmolested all night, but we dumped our 10 gallons of reserve fuel in the tank before retiring as there was no fuel in town that night.
topped off all the tanks the next morning about half an hour south of g.n., where pemex had fuel.
made la ribera that night at 7:30, breaking my first rule of never driving after dark.
the n. wind blew thru new years, so there was no fishing this trip. spent the week working on shop project. returned via aeromexico (sucks) to san diego 1/5, then drove to n.calif the next day.
no problems on the road; checkpoint guys were mainly interested in northbound traffic, and only one bothered a second look at our rig, which looked like something out of the beverly hillbillies. shoulda had grandma in her rocking chair up on top.
