An email I Received from Diane Gibbs Realty

Dear Interested Rosarito Beach Owners and Friends:

We're all painfully aware of our last 90 days of crime events that have occurred in our little City of Rosarito Beach.

All the negative press really is hurting all the local businesses. Today, I attended a meeting with the Guest Speaker, Ron Reposa, the new PR person for Rosarito Beach City Office. He is a gringo guy and has two assistants that are in constant contact with the negative media suppliers and trying to educate them, which is a bit delicate because the "basis of what they are reporting is true, but many times exaggerated". He will be sending out weekly press releases about positive happenings in Rosarito and the progress we're making as a City.

Hugo Torres is scheduled all next week on radio and TV talk shows in San Diego to be proactive and let the public know that he is now in office and the Mayors, Governor and the President of México is on board with aggressive programs and money to get Baja California back on track. Here's his schedule on that: Mr. Hugo Torres, Rosarito Mayor will present at:

Sunday 13 January, Radio Show from Lawyer in Blue Jeans, 860 AM at 8:00 AM

Friday 11 January, NBC. Sometime between 8:00 and 9:00 AM

Wednesday 16 January OR Friday 18, KUSI - Channel 51 Sometime between 8:00 and 9:30 AM (still waiting for confirmation)

The Police that are on the street now have been polygraphed and their guns have been tested to see if any ballistics match up with the bad guys. The Highway Patrol has been authorized to be more present in number and patrol more, the toll road. The green angels are 24/7 now (used to be only daylight hours).

The Mayor has hired a person by the name of Curi. There are 100 of us that are to call him if we see a Police car stop a Gringo. We report the the Police Car number, the location and time and they will make sure it is a legit traffic stop. I will be getting his cell number tomorrow. If you would like to be part of this effort, let me know and we will get you that number too. This will let the police know they (the City) is watching and along with a pay raise to the Police, they will get this cleaned up.

They have dedicated $200,000 (not sure that's ENOUGH!) to landscape and clean up the "Border Road" . They are posting signs with 800 numbers for an Emergency Crisis number for Gringos to call a special office with any problems. The State has committed to have a English speaking person on every shift in all police stations.

There is a Graffiti task force getting organized.

They're talking to the USA on increased border lanes to ease the border waits.

All these things will really impact the local businesses, real estate market, values and sales.

Over the weekend AOL and Yahoo put out a bad article on Rosarito Beach...you probably saw it.

The Board of Tourism has requested that I be one of two Local Realtors to be on their Tourism Real Estate Task Force and I have gladly accepted.

All of this being said, I think we're on the right track. We have a Passionate Mayor who is making lots of noise at the State and National levels in both countries. He has hired lots of people in his City Administration whom are young bi-lingual Mexican people as well as Gringo people in the spots he needs, to get this big job done.

This is just a quick update to let you know issues are being addressed.

Happy New Year !

Best of Blessings,

Diane Gibbs

Some of these are really positive steps, I must say.

Congratulations to those who have helped in making these first steps towards reclaiming their community a reality.

Now, we need to start seeing results.

How about a phone number of an office or agency that can help you out WHILE your being pulled over by a crooked cop!

This sounds good, but as everyone has indicated torres is one of the biggest crook in Baja Norte. How long can one expect this clean up, by a crook, to last until same old, same old?
The second thing is if Diane Gibbs is to have any credibility, she must clearly state what exaggerated stories she is referring to: "basis of what they are reporting is true, but many times exaggerated". This a time honored way of realtors down playing what is kicking their A**.
I will wait to see what she claims is exaggerated...this is simple thing since she has written print to work with.
Edit...Left out that he is a crook allegedly:lol:

Well, that sounds like what an 800 Emergency Crisis number would be, staffed by an English speaking person.

Idealy, a bilingual operator, reached easily while in Baja. Set phone to speaker and let the operator tear the dirty cop a new one!

Yeah, I am trying to figure out how you can exaggerate a kidnapping of a family and deaths of policemen. :?:

The exaggeration that I see is how the same article on the same incident can bounce around the nation's newpapers for almost two weeks and be picked up again on the internet. It almost seems like it's multiple incidents at times, unless you read the details closely.

I am not a rocket scientist nor did I sleep in Holiday Inn, but it seems to me that the "negative press" reporting about the events in Rosarito and TJ are having some effect on someones (Diane Gibbs, perchance) bottom line.

I'm glad to see that someone is feeling the pinch

I understand what you are saying, but consider this...most times you get a story from 1 or2 sources...reaches a few people...right.
This is the part that is important...It may be the same story, but it is new to more people...not an exaggeration...

AS well as the earnings of hard working resident Mexican Nationals who haven't earned the black eye that all this B.S. reporting has given THEM.

Also, it hits them in the pocket in the worst way. So all you rich gringos can have the "freedom" to keep sensationalising whatever you feel is your "right" to express.

Just remember who you are finally hurting and it is not the Diane Gibbs of the world.

All of you should be ashamed of your words and actions with all this condemnation of a country and a people who have never done anything but welcome you in, even though some of you are now showing why Americans earn the title "ugly".

If Baja is so bad, quit, stay out, don't waste your venomous remarks any longer on those who like the country, get off this forum and go find another country to run down. You can stay busy and happy, as there are so many bad places and you are so smart and perfect for being an ugly American.

Sorry Gull...We are not running down Baja...only reacting to the nationals that are running down their own country...

Wow, that post by Gull is off the chart into left field.

Sensationalizing kipnapping, murder, and corupted police?? I don't think so. They deserve every single bit of bad press they get and a whole lot more.

They need to take charge of their country and bring it into the modern world. And trust me, it is hurting the Diane's of the world big time. And they are in the best position to fix things.

Sally you are wrong...I only have good will for most. I do not do well when people won't face facts. I understand most of you Baja Norte people are trying to calm this down, some happy with corruption...some hoping their property values won't go down, some are afraid, some are tired of hearing it...I know I am. Opportunities do not come along often. Now is the time to raise you voices and help Baja. In the long run it will work miracles for you and Baja...
If I didn't care, I would not be wasting my time...there is a better tomorrow, it is just around the corner, unless you listen to Gull and quit today.
