put gmail on disk?
Does anyone know how to put gmail onto a disk? Both sent and received mail so I don't lose all my important information.
I have Googled it and looked everywhere I can think of. Thanks for your help.

The mail is not going away. It will be there until you delete it. You have space for many years of mail. They have backup which will ensure it doesn't
disappear. If you want to you forward the message or copy it.
There is no way to save the all messages as one large file with one key stroke, that I know of.

Apple's OSX Mail program lets you save mail in folders. You can have as many as you want and name them what you want. I save all my important emails
in one of these folders.
The folders can be accessed from the Mail program, or you can find the files on disk (Library>Mail>Mailboxes) and open them or copy the the
files to a CD or other storage device.
I'd be surprised if Windows products don't have a similar feature. (No, not really.:lol

I use my gmail account with outlook. Like BMG says, it can be downloaded to your pc using POP.
If you have Vista is automatically sets this up for you the first time you open Outlook. All you need to do is basically type in your email address.
With XP there are a couple more steps, but the procedure is well documented in your gmail account.
Using this all emails go to your hard drive. You can then further back them up by saving to a pst file and burning the pst to a DVD or put it on
another server.

Even if you get Gmail onto your computer with Outlook Express or similar program, the mail is still on Google's server. You can access it there at
any time I have 20050 messages in my Inbox at Gmail. no need to save them anywhere else.
