surfing Asuncion
How is the surfing at Asuncion- winter- spring? Is there nice camping in walking distance to the breaks?

Our winter surf is nicer as the water is warmer, it's starting to cool off now, between 62-65F at the moment. Later on in spring, the west winds blow
in the afternoons.We've had some nice swell lately with a nice offshore breeze too so the kids have been enjoying it. We have a really cool surf club
here with great kids who enjoy surfing with visitors so it's great for family camping...very very safe and although it is a dune area, with a 4x4 you
can camp right at the breaks. The surf club will be having a surf school this summer too...There is also lots to do when the waves aren't
great....surf fish, boogie board, fossil hunt, horseback riding, groovin in town etc.

We have seen some really good surf at Punta Choros a couple of miles south of Bahia Asuncion and we have seen people camping there----no formal camp
site, just camping. It is a beautiful spot and I would have no fear camping there.
Used to be one of those "secret" places but the local club now has tournaments. They no longer have this sign up,
But as of last time we were there, they have left the San Roque sign up----doesn't matter that San Roque is the opposite direction. 
But as it is here in Imperial Beach, sometimes there is little or no surf.
Abreojos is better known for being a surfing beach and it is a little more than 60 miles south of Bahia Asuncion by dirt road, or can be reached from
Highway 1 on a road that is paved almost all the way.

Thanks Barry---it really would be difficult to reach Abreojos by driving 60 miles south of Abreojos---I need to proof read.

No surf in Abreojos either. Might as well go to Asuncion and check out the secret places.

You guys must be talking in "surfer code", or I am going blind. I can not find "Punta Choros" on any map. And, if you drove south of Abreojos for 60
miles you would have to ferry across the mouth of Laguna San Ignacio, in several places???
Is this all "in" talk to keep the masses from knowing what you are talking about?

No, no code. We have also never found Punta Choros on any map---not even the old Baja Atlas, but it is there. It is a small point, and well, just
plain beautiful. The turn off is 1.6 miles from where the road splits---one going to Viscaino and the other to Abreojos.
Twas my mistake. I will edit the post---it should have read 60 miles south of Asuncion by dirt road.

whether Pta.Chorros has surf or not depends on the swell...duh! Here is a wave that one of our local surf club members was boogie boarding on during
the christmas surf competition. there is nothing happening today though...no swell. One of the cool things is that there is a right & a left there
and virtually no surfers on weekdays and only the local kids on weekends to our surfer buds love that...when there is surf of course. There are
several different surf areas depending on swell direction. A good amigo who surfs here for a week every year complained this year that he surfed every
single day but would have liked at least ONE other guy to surf with....can't please anybody these days!!

ooh yeah..we got our mandatory 14.5 drops yesterday but it has been very chilly and overcast for 3 days which is extremely rare. Hope it smartens up
so I can do my laundry!

punta choros is not n any map...it is a local spot and i just went today and there were killer waves, i got in in my car...lol...they just grated
theroad so it's smooth and the water is pretty warm!!!
abreojos is cool but there are too many people...it's kind of...i dunno...
los choros is a special spot, it's secluded but town is close to get what ever you need, it's great to camp, and the only people u willsee there are
locals...probably less now that school starts,but other than that no one goes out there except vigilancia, if you decide to come let us know and i
will get you a guide since it is not that easy to find...

Do you really think it is that difficult to find? Have they removed the "San Roque"sign?
It is 1.6 miles from the split in the road---follow the turn out toward the beach. The only difficult place may be following the "road" to the right
when one nears the beach. That part of the road can quickly covered over with sand, and can be VERy soft.
Look for the watch house and continue north, either by the soft road or by walking.
Then again, if your suggested guide is either Juan Carlos or Javier---good idea. They are really nice young men. Then again if we are in town, we
always enjoy a drive out to Punta Choros.

the road it's self is not hard to find but it depends what kind of break you want and how the swell is coming in, at punta choros there are different
breaks and it's good to have a guide so they can take you to the one that suites you best since they know the waves and roads really well, for
example, there is punta grande where the tournament was,but there is also la cueva where we go when the waves are not that big since it has a drop off
and makes the wave steeper...that kind of thing...
