Fine for not getting tourist card at border

Last week we crossed the border into Baja through Tecate. Since the border guys waved us right through, it was Saturday and the bank was closed, plus there was no parking for our trailer, we did not stop at the border.
You always can get your tourist card at Ensenada, right?
WRONG.:light::light::light:

They “fined” us 53 Pesos per person. There was a sheet at the immigration, stating this fine at the immigration booth. So it was not made up.

The funny part was, that they send us all the way into town, about 6 blocks, to pay the fee at the bank. After that we had to return for our Tourist card. The Tourist Card we could pay at the Bank teller right opposite the immigration counter. I guess the walk was the penalty and not the 5 Bucks.

So, no matter what, get your tourist card at the border, or be prepared to pay the fine and take a hike.

Yeah Biel..... That's the way it is. Don't try to make sense of it 'cause you can't. Consider it a lesson in flexibility. What you think you know really isn't what you hope it is.
On the other hand, perhaps it is if it isn't what you didn't want to hear or if it made no sense in the first place because it was of high importance to things which are really meanless to anybody who has the expections of accuracy in a reply that wasn't accurate or sensitive to your situation.

God bless you.

You guys - stick to the thread.

Buy your tourist papers through Vagabundos - drive through Tecate - don't stop - get it stamped at Immigration wherever.

We finally got ours stamped in La Paz a week after arriving.

No sweat.

Of course, if you are stopping at or near the crime riddled city of Ensenada - who knows?
