Loreto Fin Whale

There are many whales right now in the channel between Isla Carmen and the peninsula. Here is one I came across a couple of hours ago less than a mile offshore from Loreto. The malecon is in the background with the mission to the right.

Beautiful shot Bill! Were you as close as the photo appears, or is it a telephoto shot?

We were out whale watching Saturday off Pt Loma in San Diego and saw one whale heading for Baja. Very elusive, only saw one in about 2 hours of looking.

ken..... The camera I used has a 10x zoom and I was using it all.
ligui...... There were three whales and they came up a number of times. I snapped about a dozen frames and this was the best one. It is flat today between Loreto and the island, a little choppy outside. And, no it has been pretty consistently windy with a day or two each week when it lays down a bit.
