SENTRI, worth it or not?

Ok, I filled out the application and paid the 25 bucks (x2) for the wife and I. I live in Arizona and will have to cross at Calexico West. Is it worth it? Does it take less time to cross? We average about 45 minutes at the East crossing now.
If you have a sentri pass can you describe how long the line is to get to the sentri crossing point? Also, how long does it take to drop off folks to walk across the border to pickup o the other side?
Thanks:coolup:

Well, last time I checked it was WAY more than $25....Your total fees for hubby and wife will run about $160 and YES IT'S WORTH IT! For the ONE time you have to wait 2 hours as to the next time where you WHOOSH right through, that one time is paid for IMHO! We cross at Otay Mesa almost exclusively. In fact, since we got our SENTRI passes, that's the ONLY place we cross. Would pay again, twice as much to avoid those other lanes.

Not worth it.

We cross at Calexico sentri alot and I can tell you that we use to just drive up and go thru. I think with the online system, sentri has gotten more popular. On a busy weekend we have waited 30 mins. but the regular line is 2 hours. Most weekends we have a 5 to 10 min wait. I think the days of just driving up, at least on weekends are over but it is still worth the time and money.
Good luck Mick

Thanks for the input. And yes, I know I have to pay more when I finalize the process, but I was curious if I wanted to eat my $50 and not continue.
It sounds like it is a worth while proposition. My other question is:

If you are dropping folks to walk across, how long does it take to walk across for our friends who don't have the pass who are in the car with us?

SENTRI is well worth it. We have it for both of our cars. 0-15 minute wait times tops.

I really don't remember paying a fee up front. Is that something new????

It depends on when you go. On most bigger weekends it takes 20 mins for them to walk. On most weekends they are thru before you. You can drop them off just as you are getting to the gate they walk under the road.

I hear it's great unless you have someone with you that doesn't have a pass & then you have to let them out of the car to walk across & pick them up on the other side.

Totally worth it! I got mine last fall and it has made such a huge difference. My longest wait in the Sentri has been about 15 minutes. Quickest cross was two weeks ago - 4 minutes when the regular line was about an hour.

I use mine weekly going into Mexicali and it is the best thing I ever did for my wife and me. Just love this card and can not image not having it again. Life is sweet but this card just makes it sooooooooo much sweeter. Can cross at the East Port go to the shopping center, airport, or getting desiel and once I start back from the East Port area I can be across the border more times than not in 15 minutes. Happy card holding--- Later-- bajafun777

Speaking of Sentri passes, anyone receive their new sentri cards?

Went to the gov. web site to read of the requirements. This will all be so much easier when all babies born in the good old U.S.A. have microchips put under their skin immediately after birth so that they can be tracked (only for their own protection, of course) by BIG BROTHER.

Think that's not the ultimate aim? Yeah, right. The big joke is that they are charging and the fees will only go higher.
