Shari, I could be wrong....definitely not a PC guru....but I think you need a splitter to use PC & phone line at the same time. When you're online, your PC is using the phone line. Check & see if you get a dial tone when you log off. That way, you'll know if you just need to log off to use the phone....and maybe a PC guru will respond with more definitive info in the near future!

Weird...

Are you using a cordless phone that could be tapping into your neighbor's phone or a wireless audio/video device transmitting on the same frequency?

You're using DSL, yes? And you have the DSL splitters/filters installed on all your phones?

I unhooked everything...computer, DSL, satellite radio and still no dial tone. Last night we got a dial tone for awhile and this morning nada...I use splitters etc...tried unhooking everything and just have the phone in the original jack...nada...what puzzles me is that the line for the internet is fine??? So if it was a problem with my phone line, wouldn't that affect the internet too??? too weird. Phone company says my line is fine...I tried 3 different phnes and...nada....

Bad telephone cable from the wall to the phone? Everything else disconnected, all other phones, equipment, etc? You may need to keep the splitter installed in the line in order to test the phone.

All outlets have splitters, even those not in use for phone? And the phone is ok - have you tried another phone?

I had problems for over a week with my initial DSL setup.
I was assured that the line was good, and that the problem was my computer. (I had phone but no DSL).

Finally they agree to send a technician from Guerrero Negro to Loreto to get it working. That solved the problem.

No, the guy from Guerrero Negro never showed, just the idea of having to send someone to Loreto was enough for them to figure out the problem was at their end and could be fixed there. Doh!:lol:

I tried several different cords and phones...hmmm, will try it again keeping the splitter this time...I have an intermittent line today and managed to call
telmex and they said, yes you have static on the line and someday they will send a technician out. meanwhile, I'll keep trying things.

Had problems here in Nopolo a few years ago and that also was their answer. After a few days it seemed like the phone was working right, so called them to let them know and were told that they fixed it. Never bothered to contact us to let us know they actually worked on it.:no:
