SAN FELIPE 250-08 REPORT
Team Locos Mocos was at the races this year but not in our usual capacity as a pit service crew for Baja Pits. There was a wide spread dis-interest
in the event within our crew, along with some illness, injuries and new babies that had our crew firing on only a few cylinders for this race.
A small but willing crew of Locos ( 10 in all ) gathered at Steve and Kenna Brosz beach house at Los Olivos near the bottom of Matomi Wash for a Prime
Rib feast Thursday night. We hit town after more eating Friday morning and some shopped, walked contingency, desert explored etc. We all met up at
Morelia Junction for a short trip to RM 84.
We scouted a great camp spot in a cove of Creosote trees, pitched tents, set up the kitchen, built a fire and prepped for shrimp, Ceasar salad and
fresh rolls for dinner.
A couple members of the crew are way into this Geo-cache thing and after dinner wanted to cross the valley to the base of the San Pedro Martir to find
a "hide".
Barry "BajaTym" Buckelew, his friend John are totally addicted to the Geo-cache craze. Curtis "Cortez" Guise and myself headed out with them as a
second vehicle for a night adventure. Following a likely route along the dikes and out onto Laguna Diablo, through silt beds, winding up towards the
mountains we found ourselfs after 2 hours in a "no go" wash at the base of the mountains and 4 miles too far west of the waypoint for the cache.
Back we went to search for the trail we missed somehow that would take us more south than west. The Geo-cache was hidden in 2006 and has only been
found once so far. The place is called "Hidden Garden" and it is indeed. Here are a couple shots I took. The night hides what our lights revealed
as a spectacular desert forest that I will return to in daylight to explore further. We got back to our camp after 1 AM.
The race was per usual, kind of boring for us with nothing to do, but in true Locos fashion we had a great time. We were set up on a hard right at
the end of a long straightaway, so we had lots of rigs over shooting the corner and smashing through the bushes to get back on course. Pre-running is
pretty important. Curtis had his Hi Def camera rolling all day, a danger cam on the course getting ran over as usual, all for his next Desert People
video.
We broke camp and headed out to the north along Laguna Diablo to Mex 3 and headed for the border at Mexicali. Crossed at the new Garita in 45 min.

 Man I wish I was there, Will, but had already plans with th family, maybe next
year.I have been wondering what will be to do The Matomi trip in the dark.
BAJA IS WHAT YOU WANTED TO BE, FUN,DANGEROUS,INCREDIBLE, REMOTE, EXOTIC..JUST GO AND HAVE FUN.....

Geocaching is a great way to learn to use a GPS and fun to do with the kids, too! A hide and seek, treasure hunting game with your GPS.
Timothy Walker (a Nomad and host of TimsBaja.com) hid the first Baja Geocache, and I was the first to find it... back in 2001... I hid a few later in
2001 and one is still active (near Desengaņo)!
