Okay, what's The Truth about crime TJ-Estero Beach

Up until 14-15 months ago we had been making 3-4 trips a year across the border for 40 years but the wife & I are VERY concerned about crime, which over the last 18 months appears to be including more and more Americans. Kidnappings on BOTH sides of the border, killings, carjackings, etc. Folks who live along the corridor tell me "it's okay if you don't drive at night." What?!?!? When did that become routine? So let's say I'm staying at the Pyramid Resort (no restaurant) and I can't go out once the sun sets? I'm at Estero Beach and can't drive into E for dinner? How bad is it? How much has tourism/economy suffered? Can I drive a nice car across the border or does that make us more of a target? I mean, seriously, what's The Truth? Gracias.

I can't recall any reports involving tourists since the Baja 1K so maybe the actions they have taken are having an effect.

The two things you should keep in mind while planning dinner in town is the normal, hellbent traffic and where you park your car. Grand theft auto is common in Ensenada and crazy drivers are a trait of the local culture. Insure your car to the max and find out where your US coverage stops in Mexico.
Other than that, don't worry and have a good time.

I still think that unless your part of the drug cartel or a corrupt cop, your fine. Thats just my 2 cents.

Tell that to Chris Hall and his family. Nobody can change history or act like it never happened.

Leave the nice car at home, take the beater.

Know where you are going by scouting during daylight. Predators prey on people who look confused as they are not paying attention to thier surroundings.

Be informed as you are doing, and have a great time.

I take the same precautions driving in Ensenada as I do driving in Reno or Las Vegas. Be prepared and be aware of your surroundings.

Plenty of great places to eat in Estero Beach area and Ensenada proper.

Cyndy and I were down for the month of Feb. The locals we talked to said that tourism this year was slower than normal. We went, we had a wonderful safe time. I hope you go and have a blessed time there also.
