Vizcaino to Bahia Asuncion--slight change
Those who travel to Bahia Asuncion are very familar with the drifting dunes on the road out of Vizcaino, especially the big one right before the
turn-off to BA.
Well with the winds it has changed right now, The big dune has flattened out more so the south side of the road and the area next to it where
everyone drives, is now covered with a deep layer of very soft sand.
When we arrived yesterday, there was one van stuck going one way, another stuck headed the opposite direction and a few cars waiting for the chance
to move. From the sweat on some of the men, it was obvious they had been trying to get the vans out for a while. They were buried deep!
Fortunately, with our 4WD and tow strap, we were able to pull both vans out and then along with some of the other people, we stood to the side and
cheered as the waiting vehicles zoomed through as fast as they could---it was a little wild.
I was busy helping move junk of the "road"---junk used to try and get the vans out, so dang it, no pictures.
But, if you are headed this way, do NOT slow down, stay to the left and remember that the road under the sand is quite broken. Before it was easy to
drive off the road and around all of this, but that too is now soft sand.
Then again, who knows when they may push it back AGAIN----a never ending battle.

SLOW-- as always. We think that when the governor said it would ALL be completed by the end of the year----well, I guess one never knows, but we will
be VERY surprised.
Seriously, they have done NOTHING to repair the part that is already paved. Before there was only the one complete washout where you were diverted
off the pavement, now there are two places. Remember the spot where part of a lane fell apart? We all knew it would grow and it did---now it is
into both lanes so it is blocked off and traffic diverted.
Also, in all the areas where just a little part of the road was undermined and broke off, no work has been done, so the damage is growing.
They do, however, seem to worrking at a very steady pace on the next portion---lots of drain pipes and dirt, no pavement yet. Which reminds me, the
truck that are delivering the big rocks used to build the drainage bridges are dropping big rocks on the side road where one has to drive. They are
real oil pan killers unless you have high clearance.
It really is a time to take is slow and easy. The side road is no up and down and you really cannot see the work trucks coming up the other side, and
it was on one of those hills that one of those oil killing rocks got our friend's car.
But, EMAM made it is here with his not so small trailer-----hope you do make it down here soon.
Vizcaino road? Growing potholes as always --- the road crew just keeps staring over.

Hi Diane,
We plan to be there on May 8th, sounds like not much as changed as far as the roads go since we were last there. Thanks for the update. Lauri
What we see depends mainly on what we look for.

Hey,
The desert is beautiful as it always is, not so the road.
