Locos Mocos will be there. Anyone willing to get dusty / dirty and help out at our full service pit is welcome. Some of the best food you will ever have is provided.

See our website for details or watch here for further announcements regarding exact location when the course layout is official.

We are one in a chain of professional race service pits for Bajapits. Current race sign ups are into 50+ bikes / quads and 10 or so trucks or cars. We are always very busy and try to take one of the toughest locations on the course. The action can be non stop for hours and work for 12+ hours is not uncommon. Posers and slackers need not apply :) Food will be provided for pit, campsite and kitchen help only. Don't bring the wife and kids and expect to have them fed because you worked. Sorry but we don't have the budget for that. :(

There will be several directions identified usually to get to the pit location and sometimes 4wd is mandatory. I don't think that will be the case on this one based on the proposed location, but we'll see.

Feel free to contact me via U2U and I will add you on the e-mail chain for updates if you are interested.

I assure you that you will not regret the experience.

I can tell you that being involved in OFF ROAD racing is a blast... Even if you are just helping with radio communications as we did for Carlos of BAJA PITS at El Crucero for the 2006 Baja 1000... as seen in this photo where we are sitting with TW who stopped by for a visit... We taped up a list of the ~115 racers we pitted for and when we had reports from up the course via satellite phone, we marked down their times at previous Baja Pits/ Locos Mocos Pits... We had quite a crowd checking out the progress... The first bike passed us about midday... the first Trophy Truck just before dark and the rest kept coming through all night and into the morning.

Anyone who has an interest in helping to man one of Carlos's pits or come help at ours is welcome.

There is usually a mix of pit personel and racers at one of these and is more BS than substance. There is usually something of interest if not just another tale by Carlos from the inner circle of off road racing in Mex.

There is always a need for fresh blood.

Official map not out yet.

Proposed pit location is up course from Cohobuzo junction on the south end of Laguna Salada.

To orient go to the Baja Almanac, my page 6
Mex 5 as it crosses Laguna Salada southbound from Mexicali
See dirt road to right for Ej Saldaņa
westbound to meet road southbound from Ej Guardines
Where the 2 intersect is Cohobuzo Junction (a race course location only)
South on that road from Junc about 10 miles is our proposed pit location.

We pitted there for the 05' 1000 and it was a great location. Very tough terrain up course from us. We had lots of wounded race vehicles to service.

I heard the course may not go by Mikes Sky Ranch this year, does anyone care to speculate on this.

Also the Loco's pit last year at teh water crossing looks fun, is this up behind Mike's

Von, if you are interested, sign on as one looking for an open seat. If one comes up you're good to go.

Dirk, multi rumors abound. Will not consider another this close to the course map being out.
The water crossing last year was just on the other side of San Telmo road where the course crossed it for the first time. That was one of the best pit sites in a while!

Official course map is out so our pit south of Cohobuzo junction is the plan.
Heres the link: http://www.score-international.com/baja500/index.ihtml
It's also viewable on the Offroading thread titled 2008 Baja 500 (and map)

I will be leaving with my brother-in-law Scott as co-dog on Thursday morning from El Cajon, crossing at Tecate, running the Compadre trail to Ojos Negros and on into Ensenada from the east.

We will be hooking up with Curtis Guise and others for his video premier of Desert People Checkpoint 6 at Papas and Beer in Ensenada Thursday night.

Friday Morning we meet more of our crew and hit the course out of Independencia and head to the pit location for set up.

The rest will be history.

Anyone interested in joining us, you got till the 23rd to sign up for food to be provided.

Information for other routes to the pit location can be figured out via the course map and your navigation skills or contact us for details.

Downloaded the GPS track for the race and I found it interesting that it starts at RM 45 and ends near CK 4 at RM 400.

They are not providing a track for areas where pre-running is not allowed. That's a public map -- race teams get a different one (or will).

Lou, you going to be at Borrego. Paul gets on 305x at RM105 and off at RM205 and gets on 254x at RM205 and off at RM270. At least that's the plan for now. He's riding on two bikes. I'll be chasing and helping him.

As there are two Baja 500 threads talking about points along the course, here is the map for this thread...
