I need help in figuring out how to post a photo under my name. :?:I am aware that there is the "avatar" menu under my profile. However, I am unable to figure out how to come up with the "URL" the instructions is asking me to input. I have the photo picked out, and I have typed in the location where the photo is on my hard drive (C:my documentsetc...), but the profile will not edit with what I am typing in.
Thanks for your help!

Hi Udo...Welcome to BajaNomad. I don't know the answer to your question except that you can't put up an avatar till you have 25 posts. All the rest is too technical for me. Hang on....somebody will give you some help.

You can’t get the photo off you computer, you have to store it on the internet, does your internet provider give you storage space? For example I have AT&T so I upload it to my storage space and it read like this http://home.att.net/~bajaserg/Baja.gif for my Avatar URL: ( I still a have a 15 more posts before my shows up under my name hehe ):tumble: if your internet provider for some reason doesn’t, there’s plenty off free places like Yahoo and MSN …lost of luck and welcome:spingrin:………… BajaSerg

I just added my avatar using Image Shack - http://www.imageshack.us/

It will walk you thru the process. I'm not a computer geek but was able to do it with little trouble...major accomplishment at that.

A million thanks to bajaretreat...
imageshack looks like it will do the trick. Plus now I have a way to downsize photos that I shot @ 6-10 megapixels!

By the way...thanks to shari, and the http://www.bahiaasuncion.com. Late last year we stopped there on the way to Bahia Tortugas. The town is absolutely a dream! The road wasn't too good, but was ok in the Toyota FJ. Definitely would not go down it with my 45' Monaco RV and tow the FJ:!:
The dirt road to Playa Malarrimo is in really great shape if you are looking for camping solitude and lots of beach-combing for stuff from the north pacific ocean. When we were there last year we found a Chinese EPIRB!

Still can't get my avatar to load, does it go through an approval process? If so, sorry Doug, i've submitted it 10 times and 5 different ways...

When using imageshack do I use the direct link?, Short link?, hotlink to forums?, Hotlink for websites?

Chuck, use the TINY size option on Photobucket when you upload the image you want for your avatar from your PC...

I think I tried that one too, but will try again. Should it come up immediatly? Or is there a waiting period?

Thanks

Edit for: yes did it with photobucket tiny setting...again...

In Photobucket (or wherever your image is saved) go into the edit mode and manually change the size of the photo you want to use to 130x100 pixels, or smaller like 100x75; or 100x130 if it is a portrait shot; or 100x100 if it is square.

The "tiny" default size may still be too large depending on the size of the original. If it is much larger than 130 pixels in one dimension it may not be accepted.

It should come up immediately. Also when you post the link to your avitar through your Photobucket page make sure it is in a form like this:

http://___.photobucket.com/albums/......./avitar-photo-name.jpg

No "www"; no "[img] [/[img]"

Thanks Taco de Baja,

at least now I am getting an error that the file is still too big now that I have deleted when posting the "img's". Still too big though. The photo I want is 76 kb but my backup photo is only 8kb and submitted the same way.

I don't know how to change the pixels let alone find out how many pixels I have in the first place and running out of patiance, I could've built a new house on a Baja beach somewhere in the same amount of time...

Thanks again,

BW

Got it!!! Thanks Taco de Baja!!! I went into photobucket and found the resiize tab and then took out those "img's" and there it was.

BTW, that is Bahia Santa Maria at high tide, my house is at the bottom of the photo. Above the Bahia is "Shell Island", myself and "Steekers" rode our quads out there this past Sunday morning before breakfast.

Thanks again!

BW

just a reminder, maybe you're doing this already, but make a copy of your original picture and then edit the copy.

I see you got it! Whew! I know how you feel, it took me 2 months to get my avatar working.

Above the photos in your Photobucket album are a list of choices:

edit | move | share | delete

Click on "edit".

The next screen will have an option to "Resize" among other things like "Crop", "Rotate", "Flip", "Adjust color"...

Select "Resize"

Then enter the max dimension of 130 where prompted, and be sure the "Keep Proportions" box is checked so you don't stretch your photo. And then save a copy whith a name like "bajanomad_avitar"

Copy the link to your Baja Nomads preferences.

If that still does not work, try a max dimension of 100.

If that doesn't work, can't help you.....

Congratulations.

I'd delete my post, but there will probably be another person who needs a little more detailed description and may find it useful sometime in the future.
