Baja Moon & Tides
Here's a shot of the moon in Baja just after sunrise, from a trip last year. Have any Baja moon photos of your own to share?

My favorite of a setting moon is lost but here's one rising.

There are actually "earth tides" (sub-meter movement only) and they are even suspected of causing some earthquakes. Science Daily - Earth tides. They also have to be accounted for in some physics experiments....
Here are some moon-rise experiments as I tried out a new camera. First shot had ~1 sec exposure, the second was 8 seconds (no, I did not have a
tripod...)

"Tides are created because the Earth and the moon are attracted to each other, just like magnets are attracted to each other. The moon tries to pull
at anything on the Earth to bring it closer. But, the Earth is able to hold onto everything except the water. Since the water is always moving, the
Earth cannot hold onto it, and the moon is able to pull at it. Each day, there are two high tides and two low tides. The ocean is constantly moving
from high tide to low tide, and then back to high tide. There is about 12 hours and 25 minutes between the two high tides."

Actally you are a bit off. The change in the tides are caused by the gravitational pull of the moon, however, the gravity does not pull the water, it
actually slightly elongates the crust or shell of the planet that redistributes the oceans to cause a rise or fall of the tides.
Also, as a photographer I see some Photoshop handy work on a few of the photos. Particularly the Ravens and the boulders photos. Actually on my new
Nikon D3 and my old D200 you can actually do great moon overlays in the camera.

CortezBlue,
Love to see some of your work with that D3. I also use a Nikon, only the D80.
Regarding your comment on my "Ravens" photo. The Vultures with the moon in the background is exactly as shot. The Photoshop and Nik software were
used to create the B and W photo that was posted. When I saw the photo in color it was obvious to me that it needed to be a B and W photo. If I was
to do some handy work with the photo I would make the moon 3 times the size and frame the vulture with it.

I haven't had much time to shoot creative stuff as I am in the midst of trying to finish my casa in SF. However, I just bought a great P and S Canon,
yes I know, G9. It is a 12mp and shoots RAW. I also bought a water housing for it so I can shoot at the beach.
So you must have used the U point in NX to brighten up some of the images within the shot. Have you played with creating a B and W layer and then
eraseing the part of the B and W and showing the orignal color with b and w??
It is very cool. I took a shot in NY from inside a pizza parlor that looked out on Wall Street area. I made it all B and w but left the neon lights
and yellow cabs in color.
Check it out
