Mexican Adoptions

I was wondering if anyone has any information on Mexican adoptions (or fostering), especially in the Baja Sur area. My wife (who is of Mexican descent and may possibly have dual citizenship) and I plan to retire to La Paz in 4 years. Any information would be helpful. Our understanding is that it is very difficult. We would also be interested in fostering. We would be most interested in corresponding with anyone who has actually adopted a Mexican child. thanx ..Jon

My wife and I (neither of us is Mexican) tried it a long time ago and found it to be virtually impossible. Perhaps the fact that your wife is Mexican will help.

I raised four boys from an orphanage near Ensenada (named elsewhere, but not in this thread)

Went through a lot of paperwork to take them North legally, then things got much more difficult, but we persevered and while they are all now grown and have their own families, they will all be checking in tomorrow (Father's Day) to honor the only Dad they ever knew.

Six More at 60

A great read is the story of Robert "Bobby" Hyde and his wife, Floppy, who—at age 60—adopted six Mexican siblings, Rodriguez children, from an orphanage in Baja California. They were our neighbors in Santa Barbara in the 1960s.

The whole Father's Day timing thing was strictly coincidental but what a great topic for today. I thank you all for your input. We are pursuing a few avenues in our quest but I wanted to get some input from the collective expertise and experiences of people from the website. I have been a "member" of this website for a little over a year. It is amazing how many good deeds you members are doing in Mexico.

In my youth I lived in Southern Spain for ten years (Navy brat and dad married mom, who was a local flamenco dancer) I saw a lot of heartbreaking things there. I now work in the inner city of Los Angeles and see some of the same here. When we retire it is time to give some of my blessings and resources back. That is part of our motivation for wanting to retire to Baja Sur (La Paz). That and our love of fishing!! Have a great Father's Day...time to start the grill..the carne asada and my guests are calling me...
