Ok, I am not a big drinker, but I like my Tecate. It seems when I am in SF I can drink many more Tecates than what I can drink in Phoenix? Less alchohol or just my imagination.

Do a blind taste test with any Mexican beer that you get in Mexico against the same brand purchased in the US....you can really tell the difference.....Mexican beer is way better, but please, Pacifico, not Tecate!!!

I've always felt/thought that it was the other way around with most Mexican beers. There is indeed differences with some beers north and south of the border.

Once while on vacation in the Yucatan.. I discovered this great new(to me) Mexican beer Montejo. I had two and ordered a third which tasted like burro. After examining the bottles left on my table the first two had labels entirely in Spanish and the third (that tasted horrible) had it's label in English and marked for export. The export beer also had lower alcohol content.

I have read in the past Tecate uses different water for bottles and kegs than they do for the canned beer.

I enjoy Tecate north and south of the border.. I like it because it is palatable when warm which ensures increased range from the cooler for some adventures. I can drink plenty of Tecate south of the border and you might have something.. but it might be in our minds as well.

I still enjoy Pacifico in a bottle best... but well.. Teacate has place in my heart and cooler when bouncing down a dirt road that may otherwise break a bottle of the good stuff.

Tecate sold in the USA comes from the Monterrey brewery... Tecate sold in Baja comes from Tecate, Baja CA.

THERE IS A DIFFERENCE!

So, do what Zac says and drink PACIFICO (y nada mas), north of the border!

Seriously, Tecate in Baja is good... I do not like the Tecate sold up here... unles a lot of lime, salt, Tapatillo, or something is added... So I enjoy Pacifico which I cannot detect a major taste change on this side of the border.

Same Same Same

Tecate beer in Mexico AND the U.S. has EXACTLY the same alcohol content. The same is true for Corona Extra and Pacifico.

I read once that Tecate kegs and bottles came from the Monterey brewery and that the cans came from Baja. It could have changed, been wrong, or misread, etc...

David K is right about there being two separate Tecate breweries, so it may have something to do with all this. I had read that they use different water at the different locations.. Water being +90% of beer... it makes a big impact on taste. Either way.. I think more hands on research is necessary.

Where is SF?

Is it near M where I live or A where I go to get away from the summer heat?

If this is true, then all Tecate would have to be 3.2 beer, as I see it sold in states in the US where only 3.2 beer is allowed in certain circumstances.

Tecate's effect on me in Mexico tells me it is stronger than 3.2 beer.

Is California a 3.2 state?

will some one here please volunteer a blind taste test?
here's how you do it:

get a case of each, cans or bottles - one from USA store, one from mexico store. take either across the border to where you will test.

drink alternately a can of each till blind drunk. puke. repeat till double blind drunk and convert test to "double blind".

give a slurred speech on your opinion.
test over.
you win.

TJ's Dark is the very best for my taste.

The above test would have to be preformed in Mexico since our lawmakers in the good ole' USA only allow one liter of booze through the fence at a time. (1 beer = 325ml.. so you can only legally bring three beers back)

Pay for your beer in the states and enjoy it freely south of the border.

In a current and unrelated test..Pacifco still tastes great down here...

No. The only ones I am aware of are Colorado, Kansas, Utah, Oklahoma and Minnesota but that only applies to beer sold in grocery stores. Texas is 4.0 I believe. Still, I have seen (and purchased) Tecate in grocery stores in Colorado so I assume it must be 3.2.

Different beers for different activities and occasions.

You certainly wont catch me drinking Negra Modelo while fishing all day for dorado in July.

And I'm not likely to be drinking Tecate with tri-tip or something else off the barbie.

It's like saying Bryant Family is the best California wine. Well, maybe, for the right occasion.
