Miniature cactus flowers
These little guys just showed up in a potted miniature cactus. About 11/2 inch across. It feels like plastic or wax and the center resembles a
lifesaver candy. Tried Google with no result. Anyone seen those before ?

Good photo. Could the plant with the flower be in the family Euphorbiaceae. Some euphorbs look like cactus until they flower.
Your top photo looks like there are two types of plants-one a cactus and the other perhaps a euphorb. Just a guess!!

Wife bought those at Ley's in La Paz last year.
That flower looks and feels almost artificial. Maybe you guys are right about it being a different species then a cactus.
Pictures are not to detailed and color correct, but was taken with a cheap digital camera. My SLR too much trouble.

I hope the bloom appeared after you bought it. In a gift shop in San Diego I bought a tiny cactus in bloom with a single orange flower.
Two days later when the bloom was showing no sign of dieing I got suspicious. I poked at it and it popped off...It was a fake flower and it had been
glued in place.
Boy, what a sucker...obviously I had not looked at it very closely.
Mom always told me to be different - Now she says...Not THAT different

No trick Richard....this is for real...and yes some llttle miniture cactus have fake flowers on them when they sell them...have some myself, but you
can tell they are fake...this one looks like a lifesaver with a five point striped flower (light yellow with brown stripes) behind it and you can
actually see where it is attached to the little long cactus not the big round one. Today you can see the outside of the flower curling up (yellow with
brown stripes)....the lifesaver part is still ok. It is the neatest cactus ? I have seen.
Anybody who might have an idea of what kind it is let me know. It does not smell..

Those little flowers on the round cactus are the artificial flowers put on lots of the miniture cactus you purchase.

There is a "carrion flower" named Rafflesia arnoldi that I read was recently classified as a Euphorb.
Wow, that "flower"is mighty large compared to its stem.

From my cactus book.....It's "Huernia.....H. Macrocarpa or H. Keniensis". It's classified as a succulent. Originated in Africa/
